“A Big Bold Beautiful Journey”: Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell Embark on a Whimsical, Heartfelt Adventure In Robbie’s First Role Since 2023’s “Barbie”

After a quiet year away from the spotlight, Margot Robbie is making her long-awaited return to the big screen — and she’s bringing Colin Farrell along for the ride. The pair star in “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey“, a romantic, genre-blurring adventure that opens in theaters September 19. The film marks Robbie’s first on-screen role since 2023’s “Barbie”, while Farrell steps back into the limelight following his turn in the TV series The Penguin.
Directed by Kogonada (“After Yang”, “Pachinko”) and written by Seth Reiss (“The Menu”), “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” asks one irresistible question: What if you could walk back into the most defining moments of your past—and maybe even rewrite them?
“A Big Bold Beautiful Journey”: An Unexpected Connection
Robbie and Farrell play Sarah and David, two strangers who meet at a wedding and are unexpectedly thrown together by fate—and a mysteriously sentient GPS. What begins as an awkward rideshare turns into something far more surreal as the pair are swept into a magical, memory-traversing journey through their own personal histories. Along the way, they’re forced to confront the moments that shaped them, the choices they made, and the paths they didn’t take.

Blending fantasy, romance, and introspection, the film explores how revisiting the past can shed light on the present—and maybe even open doors to a different future.
The supporting cast includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Jodie Turner-Smith, Billy Magnussen, Lily Rabe, and Hamish Linklater. It also reunites Kogonada with both Farrell and Turner-Smith, following their work together on the introspective sci-fi drama After Yang. This project is also notable as Robbie’s first since welcoming her first child with husband and producing partner Tom Ackerley in late 2024. A source from the production described her as “super professional and focused” during filming—no one on set even suspected she was pregnant at the time.

Beyond this poetic detour into memory and fate, both stars have a full slate ahead. Robbie is set to star in Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights” opposite Jacob Elordi, due out in early 2026, and she’s also attached to the much-anticipated “Ocean’s Eleven” prequel with Ryan Gosling. Farrell, meanwhile, will reprise his role as the Penguin in “The Batman Part II”, now slated for a 2027 release, and is also involved in “The Ballad of a Small Player”.
With its blend of humor, emotion, and high-concept storytelling, “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” promises more than just a love story — it’s a cinematic invitation to reflect, revisit, and rediscover what it means to be fully alive. Mark your calendar for September 19, and get ready to take the journey.
