Amanda Seyfried Plays Dulcimer

During her appearance, the 39-year-old actress shared that she’s been honing her musical skills since childhood. At just seven years old, Amanda was already playing the piano and went on to learn the clarinet and guitar. But it doesn’t stop there – during the pandemic, Seyfried decided to master the dulcimer, a stringed instrument often associated with folk music.

Jimmy Fallon finally got the chance to pull out the dulcimer he always keeps behind his desk on The Tonight Show—just in case a guest like Amanda Seyfried happens to know how to play it. The actress was there to promote Long Bright River, but their conversation quickly shifted to her musical talents. After bonding over their shared childhood experiences with the clarinet, Seyfried revealed that she also plays guitar and learned the dulcimer during the pandemic.

Amanda Seyfried’s Exceptional Joni Mitchell Cover

“We always have a dulcimer here just in case anyone plays it,” Fallon joked before unveiling the instrument. Naturally, Seyfried took the hint and agreed to play a song, choosing to cover Joni Mitchell’s “California.”

“She wrote a lot of the songs from the Blue album on the dulcimer, and I learned a lot of stuff from [that] album when the world stopped,” Seyfried shared before delivering a stunning, crystal-clear rendition of the song’s first verse and chorus.

Her performance went viral, and now, fans are campaigning for Seyfried to play Joni Mitchell in a biopic, praising the uncanny similarity between her voice and Mitchell’s. Seyfried’s magical rendition left the audience in awe, and now, people can’t get enough of her musical talent. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s definitely worth checking out. And don’t forget to catch her in “Long Bright River” on Peacock streaming on March 13!
