Amanda Seyfried has long been a standout in the world of musical theater, winning hearts in “Mamma Mia!” and “Les Misérables”. So when she revealed that she auditioned six times for the role of Glinda in Jon M. Chu’s upcoming film adaptation of “Wicked”, fans were immediately intrigued. Seyfried doesn’t usually need to audition these days—but this was different.

Amanda Seyfried on “Wicked” Process
“I’m in that privileged spot where I just don’t have to [audition],” she said on Backstage’s In the Envelope podcast. “But I like—of course, I talked about this a lot. I auditioned like six times for Wicked because that had to be really just right. And I loved it. I was busy. I barely had time to do it, but I made it work.”:
She auditioned while filming “The Dropout”, the Hulu series that earned her an Emmy, juggling both projects with her signature determination. It wasn’t just about getting the role—it was about proving something to herself. “I worked my ass off for years and years and years on that music,” she added. “I’m competitive with myself in a really healthy way, I think.”

Though the part ultimately went to Ariana Grande, Seyfried has nothing but praise for the film and its cast. She’s called the production “fantastic” and has openly admired Grande’s performance. For Seyfried, the experience was more than a shot at a role—it was a reminder of how much she’s grown as a performer and how much she still loves musical theater.

She’s also reflected on her past work, admitting she wasn’t fully satisfied with her singing in “Les Misérables”, which only pushed her to improve. Her willingness to keep learning, take feedback, and go all-in—even when she doesn’t have to—makes her stand out in a business that doesn’t always reward vulnerability. And with talk of a potential “Mamma Mia! 3” still circulating, fans are hoping there’s another big musical moment in Seyfried’s future. Whether or not she ever plays Glinda, one thing is clear: Amanda Seyfried’s passion for her craft hasn’t gone anywhere.
