Keira Knightley Stars as Undercover Agent in Action-Packed Spy Series ‘Black Doves’
Ho-Ho-Hold onto Your Santa Hats! Netflix is about to drop a holiday bombshell that will make you forget all about those cheesy Christmas rom-coms. “Black Doves,” starring Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley, debuts this December. This British spy thriller is set in London during Christmas time. The story follows Helen (Knightley), who begins a passionate affair that may endanger her secret identity when her lover becomes a victim of London’s underworld and her employers send an old friend to protect her.
Helen appears to be an ordinary woman, but she is also a badass spy. She has been passing her politician husband’s secrets to a shadowy organization called the “Black Doves.” When her secret lover (played by Andrew Koi) is assassinated, Helen’s entire world is turned upside down. Enter Sam, played by Emmy winner Ben Whishaw, who is there to keep Helen safe. But in the world of espionage, can anyone truly be safe?
And if that wasn’t enough to get you excited to binge, British star Sarah Lancashire plays the spymaster, Reed. She is the mastermind behind the organization, and something tells me she might end up on Santa’s naughty list.
Behind the Scenes of “Black Doves”
Joe Barton is the showrunner and executive producer of “Black Doves.” He is best known for creating “Giri/Haji,” the British crime thriller that ran for two seasons on Netflix. He also wrote the screenplay for “The Union,” a Netflix thriller starring Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry.
Netflix must be confident that “Black Doves” will be a hit, as it has already been renewed for a second season even before the trailer for the first season dropped! This is incredibly impressive since executives are slower to renew shows nowadays.
Keira Knightley isn’t just starring in this show; she is also an executive producer. With a career spanning over two decades, Knightley has received critical acclaim for her performances in films such as “Pride & Prejudice,” “Atonement,” and “The Imitation Game.” She is known for her versatility and has garnered multiple award nominations, including two Academy Award nods. This is her first major television role, and it comes out during the holidays. However, it is quite different from “Love Actually,” one of her most famous roles and a classic Christmas movie.
