What happens when you bring together a group of talented strangers and ask them to form a band—without ever seeing each other? That’s the bold premise behind “Building the Band”, Netflix’s groundbreaking new music competition series premiering July 9.
“Building the Band” Premise
In this one-of-a-kind experiment, singers will attempt to build six unique bands guided purely by vocal ability and chemistry, not appearance. Hosted by AJ McLean of Backstreet Boys fame, the series kicks off with a blind performance round. From private sound booths, contestants listen in as others sing—but they have to make the decision to join forces without knowing what the person looks like.
Once the bands are locked in, the veil lifts. For the first time, members meet face-to-face and begin working together to compete for the top spot. But this show isn’t just about vocal chops—dance moves, stage presence, drive, and teamwork are all put to the test.
Judging and mentoring the rising stars is a powerhouse panel of music icons: Grammy-winning artist Kelly Rowland, who has also signed on as a judge for The Voice UK, pop superstar Nicole Scherzinger, and the late Liam Payne, who appears posthumously in the series. Together, they’ll coach, critique, and challenge the groups to reach their full potential.
