When it comes to action stars, Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman are in a league of their own—and now they’re finally sharing the screen in “The Old Guard 2“. Theron, long admired for her roles in “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Atomic Blonde”, recently opened up about the experience on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, calling it a major full-circle moment.

“We knew each other kind of offhand, but I knew her from being a massive fan, just watching her work, and always wanted to do something with her,” said Theron. “Because when I came into the action world, she was really, to me, like, the sensei. She was the OG.”

The admiration didn’t stop there. Host Jimmy Kimmel pointed out what many fans have long felt: “She should’ve won the Academy Award for Kill Bill, right?”

“A hundred percent,” Theron agreed without hesitation.

Theron, herself an Oscar winner, emphasized just how groundbreaking Thurman’s performance was. “What she did in that film was just so unbelievable,” she said, referencing 2003’s Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and its 2004 sequel. “Men get a lot of credit for these [types of] movies,” she added, noting the lack of recognition female action stars often face.

Despite her own status as a powerhouse in the genre, Theron admitted she was “scared” to star opposite Thurman in “The Old Guard 2”. “She’s just such a badass,” she said. “So since I’ve been in action movies I’ve been like, ‘Who do I want to work with and do an action sequence with?’ It’s always been Uma Thurman. Always.”

Directed by Victoria Mahoney, “The Old Guard 2” continues the story of immortal warriors led by Theron’s character Andy. With Thurman joining the cast, alongside returning stars like KiKi Layne and Marwan Kenzari, the sequel promises bigger action and deeper emotional stakes.

More than just an exciting sequel, the film represents a powerful moment of recognition and collaboration between two icons who’ve helped redefine what it means to be a woman in action cinema. “The Old Guard 2” is out on July 2 on Netflix.
