Daniel Day-Lewis Comes Out Of Retirement Since 2017 For New Film Directed By Son: “Anemone”

After a seven-year hiatus, three-time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis is stepping back into the spotlight in “Anemone”, a new drama directed by his son, Ronan Day-Lewis. Focus Features has announced a limited theatrical release on October 3, followed by a wider expansion on October 10.

Daniel Day-Lewis Return With “Anemone”
The film marks Ronan Day-Lewis’s feature directorial debut and delves into the intricate emotional bonds between fathers, sons, and brothers. In a rare creative collaboration, father and son co-wrote the screenplay, making “Anemone” both an artistic and deeply personal project. The film is produced by Brad Pitt’s production banner, Plan B. Joining Daniel Day-Lewis in the cast are Sean Bean, Samuel Bottomley, Safia Oakley-Green, and Samantha Morton.
Daniel Day-Lewis Calls It Quits In 2017
Day-Lewis was last seen in 2017’s “Phantom Thread”, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Soon after, he announced his retirement from acting. He did not provide a reason at the time. His spokesperson
His team had released a statement confirming:
“Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject.”
However, in a W Magazine interview later that November, Day-Lewis offered a glimpse into his mindset, stating: “I need to believe in the value of what I’m doing. The work can seem vital, irresistible, even. And if an audience believes it, that should be good enough for me. But, lately, it isn’t.”

Daniel Day-Lewis Comeback and Success
Whether “Anemone” is a one-time return or the beginning of a new chapter in his career remains to be seen. Widely regarded as one of the greatest actors of his generation, Day-Lewis has built a legacy on transformative, deeply immersive performances in films such as “There Will Be Blood”, “Lincoln”, “My Left Foot”, and “The Last of the Mohicans”.

He is the only male actor in history to have won three Academy Awards for Best Actor, and his work continues to set the gold standard for commitment and craft in cinema. “Anemone” is in theaters this fall.
