Sony Pictures Animation is developing a “Spider-Punk” animated feature film, and it’s already turning heads thanks to co-writer Daniel Kaluuya. Known for his Oscar-winning performance in “Judas and the Black Messiah”, Kaluuya is no stranger to telling powerful stories.

He previously voiced Hobie Brown, aka Spider-Punk, in “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”, and now he’s helping bring the character front and center in this new animated movie.

Joining Kaluuya is Ajon Singh, a rising writer with a knack for sharp storytelling, most recently seen in his work on “Primetime”. Together, the two are set to deliver a film that’s equal parts electric, emotional, and unapologetically punk.
First introduced in 2015’s Spider-Verse comic crossover, the character hails from Earth-138 and isn’t your average web-slinger. He’s an anti-establishment hero who fights against corrupt systems, decked out in spiked denim and shredding on a guitar between battles. His gritty attitude, radical style, and activist mindset make him a standout in the multiverse—and a perfect candidate for a solo movie.
With Sony’s Spider-Verse films already redefining the superhero genre—”Into the Spider-Verse” won an Oscar and “Across the Spider-Verse” grossed nearly $700 million—the bar is high. But with Kaluuya at the creative helm, fans are expecting a story rich in rebellion, justice, and character depth.
