Eddie Murphy, 64, has confirmed he will be stepping into the iconic role of Inspector Clouseau in an upcoming “Pink Panther” reboot. In an interview on The Today Show on July 28, while promoting his new action-comedy “The Pickup”, Murphy revealed the exciting news:

“I’m getting ready to do a George Clinton, Parliament-Funkadelic. I’m getting ready to do George Clinton,” Murphy said. “I’ve already started Shrek 5. And I’m going to be— I’m Inspector Clouseau in the next Pink Panther.”

After Today co-host Al Roker expressed surprise, Murphy confirmed, “Yeah, I’m the new Clouseau,” adding even more anticipation for the character’s revival.

When Roker asked whether Murphy’s Clouseau would still be French—following in the footsteps of Peter Sellers’ original 1960s portrayal—Murphy laughed and said, “Maybe.” He then teased, “Well, he has to be French, but he could also be Haitian. I will tell you, he’s Black. He’s Black, for sure.”

Murphy’s take on the bumbling detective promises to bring a new spin to the character, with his trademark humor likely adding a fresh twist to the Pink Panther franchise.
