Ron Howard returns to the big screen with “Eden“, a gripping survival thriller set to hit theaters August 22, 2025. Based on a true story, the film dives into the chaos that unfolds when a group of idealists tries to build a utopia on a remote island in the Galápagos. What starts as a dream quickly turns into a nightmare.
“Eden” Premise and Stacked Cast
At the center of “Eden” are Dr. Friedrich Ritter (Jude Law) and Dora Strauch (Vanessa Kirby), who leave behind modern life to start fresh. They’re soon joined by other settlers, including Heinz and Margret Wittmer (Daniel Brühl and Sydney Sweeney), all hoping to create a new world. But things spiral when Baroness Eloise Bosquet (Ana de Armas) arrives with her two lovers and plans to open a luxury hotel.

As personalities clash and tensions rise, the island becomes a powder keg. Survival depends not just on braving the wild—but navigating the darker side of human nature. Howard has called the story “chilling,” noting that many of the real settlers either died or disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
The cast is stacked. Jude Law brings depth to the idealistic Ritter. Ana de Armas stirs the pot as the unpredictable Baroness. Vanessa Kirby and Sydney Sweeney offer raw, emotional performances as women caught in a growing storm of betrayal and ambition.

Written by Noah Pink (“Tetris”), “Eden” is produced by Howard and Brian Grazer, a team known for emotional, high-stakes storytelling. To ensure realism, Howard pushed the cast out of their comfort zones—adding a raw edge to the film’s portrayal of survival and identity.
After a buzzy premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and a few release delays, “Eden” is finally making its way to theaters. At its heart, “Eden” explores what happens when the dream of paradise crashes into the reality of human flaws—how ego, greed, and survival instincts can destroy even the best intentions.

With a haunting trailer already out, anticipation is building. “Eden” may not be your typical survival story—but it’s one that will stay with you long after you leave the theater. “Eden” is out in theaters on August 22.
