A24’s upcoming film “Eternity” is already generating buzz—and for good reason. With a heartfelt premise, a stellar cast, and a blend of romance and existential depth, it’s shaping up to be one of the most talked-about films of the fall.

“Eternity” Premise
Directed by David Freyne (Dating Amber), “Eternity” centers on Joan, played by Elizabeth Olsen, who finds herself in a very unusual afterlife. Souls are given one week to decide where—and with whom—they’ll spend eternity. For Joan, that means choosing between her late husband Larry (Miles Teller) and her first love Luke (Callum Turner). What unfolds is a love triangle that spans life and death, forcing Joan to reflect not only on her past relationships but on the person she’s become.

The story tackles big themes—love, loyalty, memory, regret—but does so with a lightness that keeps it grounded. The recently released trailer captures that balance, teasing both poignant moments and unexpected humor. “A lot has happened in a week,” Joan says in the trailer, summing up the emotional whirlwind she’s navigating.
Co-written by Freyne and Pat Cunnane, whose screenplay landed on the 2022 Black List, “Eternity” brings depth and originality to the romantic comedy genre. The supporting cast includes John Early, Olga Merediz, and Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph, adding even more personality to this emotionally rich story.

“Eternity” is set to make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival before hitting theaters this November. TIFF has long been a launchpad for critically acclaimed films, and “Eternity” could be the next breakout. With its emotional core, stunning visuals, and thought-provoking premise, this is a movie that aims to make audiences laugh, cry, and reflect on the choices that define us.
