Over the weekend, “Happy Gilmore 2” teed off in a big way, hitting the No. 1 spot on Netflix right after its July 25 premiere. Nearly 30 years after Adam Sandler first introduced us to the hockey player-turned-golfing legend, the sequel is serving up a double shot of nostalgia and fresh laughs — and fans can’t get enough.

In celebration of the film’s streaming success, Sandler, Julie Bowen, and Christopher McDonald reunited in a brand-new IMDb exclusive alongside franchise newcomer Benny Safdie. The interview is a love letter to the original, packed with behind-the-scenes stories, fan-favorite quotes, golf tips, and heartfelt memories
- “Happy, Look Out!”
JHulie Bowen, who returns as Virginia Venit, says the movie’s most quoted line still catches her off guard.
- “I get randomly, ‘Happy, look out!’” she laughs. “It scares me every time… It always freaks me out.”
Christopher McDonald, once again stepping into the perfectly-pressed shoes of Shooter McGavin, added: “People come up because they’ve seen the movie so many times. It’s really fun to hear them say things like, ‘Five iron, huh? Well, you’re fired.’”

Adam Sandler, who co-wrote the sequel with longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy, revealed that this time around, “Happy Gilmore” became a family affair.
- “My wife was in it,” he shared. “We had nice scenes together. Julie’s so damn nice to my entire family… You and Jackie and the kids were all just talking and talking. And like, we’re shooting a movie, but we’re all hanging. It was the best.”
- Julie Bown chimed in with praise for the Sandler family….“Jackie and those kids are the nicest people… They’re very sweet tempered, like their mother… You raised them right… You did a great job.”
“Happy Gilmore 2”: A New Chapter, Same Swing
In “Happy Gilmore 2”, Happy is older, wiser (kind of), and slightly out of step with a modern world of elite golfers and social media stardom. “I haven’t swung a club in years,” Happy admits in the movie. But when a new challenge arises, he dusts off the clubs for one more shot at glory.
The sequel balances its nostalgic roots with fresh energy, thanks to celebrity cameos from Travis Kelce, Eminem, Margaret Qualley, Dan Patrick, and golf pros Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas. Bad Bunny joins the cast as Happy’s new caddy, while Ben Stiller returns in a scene-stealing role as the famously rude nursing home orderly.
Directed by Kyle Newacheck, the film updates Happy’s “happy place” in hilarious and heartfelt ways — turning what could’ve been a gimmick into a surprisingly charming exploration of legacy and growing older.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan or a newcomer to the franchise, “Happy Gilmore 2” proves that Sandler still knows how to drive it straight down the middle. And if the IMDb cast reunion is any sign, the laughs — and love — behind this comedy classic are still going strong.
