The magic is back! HBO has officially begun production on its highly anticipated “Harry Potter” TV series, and fans are buzzing. This fresh adaptation will retell the beloved story across seven seasons, each based on one of J.K. Rowling’s original books—giving characters and plotlines more room to breathe.

“Harry Potter” Production Begins
Filming kicked off today, on July 14 at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, the same iconic location where the original movies were made. The series is set to premiere in 2027.
Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. They were chosen from over 30,000 auditionees. Other new cast members include John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Hagrid. Fans are already talking about the first look at McLaughlin in Harry’s signature glasses and robes.

Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod (both from “Succession”) are leading the charge, aiming to honor the original books while bringing in new energy and perspective. The creative team includes acclaimed cinematographer Adriano Goldman and costume designer Holly Waddington, who are working to give Hogwarts a refreshed but familiar look.
What To Expect
The series will stay true to the original storyline—Harry discovering he’s a wizard, finding friendship and love at Hogwarts, and facing the dark rise of Lord Voldemort. But with more time and detail, fans can expect deeper character development and richer world-building.

With a new cast, a talented production team, and a longer format, this series is shaping up to be a fresh chapter for the “Harry Potter” universe. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or a newcomer to the wizarding world, 2027 can’t come soon enough.
