1) Khal Drogo  (Game of Thrones) – Jason Momoa’s Breakout

Before he was Aquaman, Momoa was turning heads as Khal Drogo in Season 1 of “Game of Thrones.” Based on George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, the fantasy drama drops viewers into the world of powerful families fighting for control of the Iron Throne. While “Game of Thrones” has no shortage of iconic characters, Momoa’s Drogo was unforgettable.

As the fierce Dothraki leader, he was intimidating, noble, savage and surprisingly capable of tenderness. He barely spoke English in the role, fully committing to the made-up Dothraki language.

In Esquire’s November Cover Story, Jason Momoa joked about how hard it was to shake his convincing role of Drogo after filming: “ I mean, where do you put Drogo? He’s not going in a rom-com. No one even knew I spoke English.”

Though this was a brief role, Drogo left a lasting impression.

If you’re into family drama, lust, gruesome wars and mystical creatures, “Game of Thrones” is for you. All eight seasons of “Game of Thrones” are streaming now on HBO Max.

2) Declan Harp  (Frontier)

After his breakout role in “Game of Thrones,” Momoa immersed himself into a new role as Declan Harp in the series “Frontier”.

The Netflix original historic drama takes place during the 18th century, amid the North American fur trade. The story follows a half-Irish, half-Cree fur trader as he fends for his native land against a corrupt Hudson Bay company.

This series is filled with bloody battles, nail-biting shoot-outs and revenge. Momoa is also joined by a solid cast including Alun Armstrong, Landon Liboiron, Zoe Boyle, Jessica Matten, and Tantoo Cardinal, who help bring the story to life.

If you’re counting down the days until “Chief of War” drops and need something action-packed to fill the gap, “Frontier” is definitely worth a watch. All episodes are streaming now on Netflix.

3) Baba Voss  (See)

In this futuristic post-apocalyptic world, mankind has lost the ability to see. Momoa’s character, Baba Voss, is a warrior and the leader of the Alkenny Tribe. After finding out that his children are born with the ability to see, he fights to protect them and their gift of sight.

In an interview with People, Momoa opened up about his love for his character. “I really like playing Baba, so you work so hard to get where you are in your career, and then you get a gift of a great character, then you have to say goodbye.”

If you’re into action, and seeing Momoa go full dad-mode, “See” is definitely worth the binge. All episodes are streaming now on Apple TV+.

4) Arthur “Aquaman” Curry  (Aquaman/Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom)

Momoa joins the DC Extended Universe as Aquaman. The story follows Arthur “Aquaman” Curry, as he navigates his return to Atlantis to save and reclaim the kingdom from his half brother.

Momoa fully embraces this superhero role, bringing that signature mix of charm and badass energy. He definitely looked the part too. According to Men’s Health, Momoa worked along-side fitness trainer, Mark Twight to build the perfect physique for his underwater king role.

He later reprised his role for the sequel, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” nearly five years later.

Both “Aquaman” movies are streaming now on Max, so if you haven’t watched either yet, now is the time.

5) Duncan Idaho (“Dune”)

Based on the science fiction novel by Frank Herbet, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a young man who must travel to the most dangerous planet to save the future of his family and his people.

While Timothée Chalamet serves as main character, Paul, Momoa shines in his role as Duncan Idaho, a fearless warrior and loyal friend.

The movie is packed with action, epic visuals, and stellar cast, including Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, and Rebecca Ferguson.

Dune is streaming now on Max, so if you haven’t watched yet, now’s a good time to catch up.
