Jesse Eisenberg: Fresh Off an Oscar Nod, He’s Directing a Star-Studded Musical Comedy

Fresh off his Oscar-nominated “A Real Pain”, Jesse Eisenberg is stepping into new territory with an untitled musical comedy — and it’s already shaping up to be something special. He’s directing, writing, and even creating original songs for the project, which follows a shy woman (played by Julianne Moore) who gets cast in a small-town musical and slowly loses herself in the role. It’s quirky, heartfelt, and full of that offbeat charm Eisenberg does so well.

Jesse Eisenberg’s Newest Cast
The cast is stacked: Paul Giamatti, Halle Bailey, Havana Rose Liu, and Broadway legend Bernadette Peters join Moore, making this one seriously star-studded ensemble. And with Emma Stone’s Fruit Tree producing, and A24 backing the release, expectations are high — and rightly so.

Music-wise, it’s in good hands. Steven Gizicki (“La La Land”) is supervising the soundtrack, Bill Sherman (“In the Heights”) is producing the music, and Hamilton choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler is handling the dance scenes. Basically, we’re in for a treat.

Filming kicked off in April, and while there’s no release date just yet, it’s safe to say this is one of the more exciting projects on the horizon. With its blend of comedy, identity crisis, and original music, Eisenberg’s latest could be his most unexpected — and most personal — film yet.
