They were the most successful films I’ll ever be a part of, and they were the reason that I was taken down publicly. So they’re a very confused place in my head.”
Then came motherhood. In 2015, Knightley welcomed her first daughter, Edie, followed by Delilah in 2019. Suddenly, her priorities shifted. The long shoots, the travel – it all became harder to juggle with raising kids. Knightley started to rethink her career, making choices that allowed her to be there for her family without sacrificing her love of acting.
In the interview she discusses how she “couldn’t go job to job [abroad] now,” Knightley explained to the U.K Times. “I wouldn’t be in any way fair to them, and I wouldn’t want to. I’ve chosen to have children, I want to bring them up, so I’ve had to take a major step back.”
Knightley revealed she’s no longer willing to take on roles that keep her away from her kids for extended periods. She’s focusing on projects that allow her to balance her creative work with her home life, choosing roles that are both personally and professionally rewarding.
