‘Kinda Pregnant’: New Amy Schumer Comedy Coming to Netflix
Amy Schumer is back in full force with her latest comedy, “Kinda Pregnant”, coming to Netflix this February 5th. Not only is she starring in the film, but Schumer is also co-writing and producing, proving once again that she’s a triple threat in the world of comedy. In “Kinda Pregnant”, she plays Lainy, a Brooklyn-based English teacher who’s feeling a little left behind when her best friend, Kate (played by Jillian Bell), announces her pregnancy. Feeling jealous and unsure of her own path, Lainy decides to fake her way through it, wearing a prosthetic baby bump to match her friend’s growing belly. But things get a lot more complicated when she meets Josh (Will Forte), her dream guy, and starts spinning a web of lies that only grows more absurd with each passing day.
“Kinda Pregnant” Premise
Schumer said the movie was “laugh-out-loud funny and relatable,” to People Magazine and who can blame her? Most of us have told a small fib that turned into something much bigger. While Lainy’s story may be a bit extreme, it’s easy to see the humor in the situation. But “Kinda Pregnant” isn’t just about laughs—it’s also a commentary on the pressures women face in society. Schumer has said the film shows how women are constantly made to feel like they’re failing, but instead of succumbing to those pressures, Lainy and her friends navigate life with humor, resilience, and a few well-placed lies.
The comedy powerhouse cast also includes the hilarious Will Forte, who plays Josh, Lainy’s unsuspecting love interest. Schumer calls him the “funniest person alive,” and fans are in for a treat as Forte takes on a romantic lead for the first time. The dynamic between Schumer and Forte is electric, with Schumer herself saying they had a blast building trust on set. And, of course, the ensemble cast doesn’t stop there—Jillian Bell brings her sharp comedic timing to the role of Kate, Lainy’s pregnant bestie, while Damon Wayans Jr., Brianne Howey, and Alex Moffat add even more star power to the mix.
While the film is packed with jokes and laugh-out-loud moments, Schumer hinted to People that there will be some emotional scenes too. One such moment involves a deeply intimate scene with Brianne Howey, which Schumer has described as “the most satisfying day of shooting” for her as both a woman and an artist. It’s clear that while Kinda Pregnant is full of humor, it also takes the time to delve into the deeper, more heartfelt moments of friendship, identity, and self-discovery.
Directed by Tyler Spindel, who previously helmed “The Out-Laws”, “Kinda Pregnant” promises a perfect blend of comedy, warmth, and a little bit of chaos. The film also boasts a powerhouse production team, with Adam Sandler on board as a producer, ensuring that the project has both the comedic chops and the star power it needs to succeed.
So, mark your calendars! “Kinda Pregnant” is ready to take you on a wild ride of laughter, romance, and a few tear-jerking moments along the way. It’s the perfect feel-good comedy to brighten up your winter. “Kinda Pregnant” debuts on Netflix on February 5.
