Star-Studded “Doctor Odyssey” Cast: Where You Know the Actors From
“Doctor Odyssey” premieres on ABC on September 26. The new medical drama series has a cast of television veterans, a Broadway star, and even a musical icon. The trailer broke viewership records with 77.8 million views in the first 48 hours of release. Here is where you know the cast of the highly anticipated “Doctor Odyssey” from.
1. Joshua Jackson as Dr. Max Bankman (“Doctor Odyssey”
Joshua Jackson is an accomplished actor in both film and television. His first major success came as Charlie Conway in the “Mighty Ducks” film series, which established him as a childhood favorite. He has also appeared in films such as “The Skulls,” “Cruel Intentions,” “One Week,” and is set to star in the upcoming “Karate Kid” sequel, scheduled for release in 2025.
While Jackson is well-known for his film work, he has gained significant acclaim for his roles in several successful television series. His breakout role as Pacey Witter in the teen drama “Dawson’s Creek” showcased his charm and charisma alongside co-stars Michelle Williams, Katie Holmes, and James Van Der Beek. He later starred as Peter Bishop in the cult favorite “Fringe,” which ran from 2008 to 2013. Jackson continued to impress with his performance in “The Affair,” which won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama. He also took on nuanced roles in the acclaimed limited series “When They See Us” and “Little Fires Everywhere.”
In 2021, Jackson starred in Peacock’s “Dr. Death” as Christopher Duntsch, a doctor accused of malpractice for injuring 33 out of 38 of his patients. His portrayal earned him critical acclaim. Currently, he is both an executive producer and the star of the new series “Doctor Odyssey,” where he plays Dr. Max Bankman, a physician aboard a luxury cruise ship who tackles a new medical case each week on a different cruise ship.
2. Don Johnson as Captain Robert Massey
Don Johnson is a versatile actor and singer best known for his work in “Miami Vice,” for which he won a Golden Globe and received an Emmy nomination for his performance. He also played the titular character in “Nash Bridges” and received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1996.
In film, Johnson has appeared in “A Boy and His Dog,” “Tin Cup,” “Django Unchained,” “The Other Woman,” and “Knives Out.” As a singer, he had a hit cover of the song “Heartbeat,” originally sung by Wendy Waldman, which cracked the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 in the ’80s.
Now, he returns to television as Captain Robert Massey in “Doctor Odyssey.” We can’t wait to see Don back on the small screen in this new mysterious show!
3. Phillipa Soo as Nurse Avery Morgan
Phillipa Soo took the world by storm in her Tony nominated performance in “Hamilton”. She originated the role of Eliza Hamilton and took home a Grammy for the Broadway Cast Recording. Her powerful performance and immense vocal talent brought her further recognition on Broadway including the revival of “Into The Woods” and “The Parisian Woman”.
For her on screen works, she appeared in the miniseries “Dopesick” and “Shining Girls”. We are excited to see her continue building her television portfolio with her role as Avery Morgan on “Doctor Odyssey”. She seems to have quite the special relationship with Dr. Max Bankman (Joshua Jackson) from the trailer.
4. Sean Teale as Nurse Tristan Silva
Sean Teale is a British actor best known for his work in the British teen series “Skins.” He also appeared in the Netflix miniseries “Who Is Erin Carter?”, which became the most-watched show in over 80 countries when it debuted last summer.
On the film side, Sean was most recently seen in the Netflix romantic comedy “Mother of the Bride,” starring Brooke Shields and Miranda Cosgrove. Now, he is returning to the small screen in “Doctor Odyssey” as Nurse Tristan Silva.
Guest Stars:
The special aspect of “Doctor Odyssey” is the amazing guest stars featured each week for every cruise. Previously announced names include Shania Twain, John Stamos, Chord Overstreet, Kelsea Ballerini, and Cheyenne Jackson. Who knows who will show up next? Ryan Murphy has collaborated with nearly everyone in the industry at some point, so we have a feeling that some major stars could make appearances as patients of Dr. Max Bankman.
“Doctor Odyssey” premieres on ABC on September 26 at 9 EST. Episodes stream on Hulu the next day.
