“Nobody Wants This” Cast: Where You Know The Romantic Comedy Ensemble From
A new Netflix romantic comedy series, “Nobody Wants This” has just been released and folks are loving it! The show follows the unexpected relationship between a rogue rabbi and an irascible, loud, agnostic woman. It’s both witty and romantic, something that the rom-com genre has been lacking lately. With 10 25-ish minute episodes, “Nobody Wants This” is an absolute gem. It is a perfect early fall binge and will make you want to hit the next episode as fast as possible. The ensemble comprises television veterans and we’re taking you through all of their previous works from early beginnings to their more recent roles.
1. Kristen Bell as Joanne in “Nobody Wants This”
Kristen Bell has been acting since attending the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Early film roles included “Spartan,” alongside Val Kilmer, and “Gracie’s Choice,” featuring Diane Ladd. However, her breakout role came in “Veronica Mars,” where she received critical acclaim for her portrayal of the titular character. She reprised this role in the 2014 film and the 2019 revival series.
In 2007, Bell appeared in the superhero drama series “Heroes” for one season. She also provided the voice of “Gossip Girl” in the beloved CW series that ran for six seasons. Later, she starred in the Showtime comedy series “House of Lies,” alongside Don Cheadle, which aired for five seasons.
Her most significant television role to date was as Eleanor Shellstrop in “The Good Place,” which aired on NBC from 2016 to 2020. This comedy explores the afterlife and delves into philosophy and ethics. The series was nominated for 14 Emmys during its run, including Outstanding Comedy Series for its third and fourth seasons. Bell herself received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance. The series finale is regarded as one of the best of all time, making the show well worth watching.
Following “The Good Place,” Bell took on a very different role in the dark comedy “The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window” on Netflix. The series follows Anna (Bell), who believes she witnessed a murder, but others think she is imagining it. The series was executive produced by both Kristen Bell and Will Ferrell.
In film, she achieved success in the horror movie “Pulse” and played the title character in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” Her most prominent film role is voicing Anna in “Frozen” and “Frozen 2,” with a third film currently in development where she is expected to reprise her role.
In “Nobody Wants This,” Kristen plays Joanne, a podcast host who is agnostic and outspoken. She dances to the beat of her own drum and begins to fall for Noah, a rabbi played by Adam Brody.
2. Adam Brody as Noah in “Nobody Wants This”
Adam Brody’s breakout role came with the series “The O.C.,” where he played Seth Cohen, one of the show’s “core four” characters. In the 2000s, Brody had roles in successful films such as “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “Thank You for Smoking,” “In the Land of Women,” and “Jennifer’s Body.”
In the 2010s, Brody appeared in supporting roles in films like “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World,” “Sleeping with Other People,” and the drama series “StartUp,” where he also served as an executive producer. He later starred in the successful dark comedies “Ready or Not” and “Promising Young Woman,” the latter of which was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
Brody returned to television in 2022 with the miniseries “Fleishman Is in Trouble,” which received a nomination for Outstanding Limited Series at the Emmy Awards. Now, he is back on our screens in “Nobody Wants This,” where he stars as Noah, a rabbi who is both funny and eager to live his life without the constant scrutiny of family and friends.
3. Justine Lupe as Morgan in “Nobody Wants This”
Justine Lupe first gained worldwide prominence for her role as Willa Ferreyra, Connor’s wife, in HBO’s “Succession.” During the series run, she received two SAG Ensemble Awards. She is also known for her recurring roles in shows like “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Madam Secretary,” and “The Big Door Prize.” On the film side, Justine appeared in “Luckiest Girl Alive” and “Frances Ha.”
In her newest series, “Nobody Wants This,” she plays Morgan, Joanne’s younger sister and podcast co-host. During production, Lupe was actually pregnant, so the team had to creatively conceal her pregnancy for the show.
4. Timothy Simons as Sasha in “Nobody Wants This”
Timothy Simons is best known for his work on the acclaimed political comedy series “Veep,” where he starred as Jonah Ryan, the White House liaison to the Vice President. Simons received critical acclaim for his performance and won the SAG Ensemble Award for the show in 2017. On the film side, he appeared in “The Interview,” “Christine,” “Don’t Worry Darling,” and “The Boss,” in which he co-starred with Kristen Bell.
Another series Simons starred in is “Candy,” a true crime show about the murder of Betty Gore. Jessica Biel plays the titular role, and the series became one of the most-watched on Hulu of all time.
In “Nobody Wants This,” Simons plays Sasha, Noah’s older brother, who is both awkward and hilarious in his interactions with Morgan.
