“Saturday Night” is one of the most anticipated movies of the fall, featuring an ensemble of award winners, newcomers, and many familiar faces. The film tells the story of the 90 minutes leading up to the debut of “Saturday Night Live” on October 11, 1975. “Saturday Night” is in theaters nationwide this week, and the talented ensemble truly makes the movie shine on screen. 1. Gabriel LabBelle as Lorne Michels
Gabriel LaBelle is best known for his role in “The Fabelmans,” the semi-autobiographical film that follows Steven Spielberg’s childhood. 8. Nicholas Braun as Andy Kaufman/Jim Henson
Nicholas Braun is an American actor best known for his role as Greg Hirsch on the critically acclaimed HBO series “Succession”. His performance in the show, which follows a powerful media family, earned him two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
Before “Succession”, Braun appeared in various films and TV shows, including “Sky High”and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”. Braun actually plays two roles in the movie and the director, Jason Reitman spoke to Indie Wire about the decision to have him play two parts.
Reitman said, “We wrote Jim Henson for Nick. We would just sit there in the room saying things like, ‘F*** rags for rent,’ and imagine Nicholas Braun saying it and be like, ‘This is going to be great.’ Benny Safdie was actually supposed to play Andy Kaufman, and Benny became unavailable because his film got green-lit, this one he just finished directing. As we kept on thinking about who would be right for Andy Kaufman, we just kept on coming back to Nicholas Braun. And then we thought, ‘Well, yeah, on SNL, you can play more than one character.’”
9. Cooper Hoffman as Dick Ebersol
Cooper Hoffman is best known for his performance in Licorice Pizza, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. This was his acting debut, and he received strong notices for the film, earning a nomination for a Golden Globe Award for his role. Cooper’s father is the acclaimed actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who passed away in 2014.
