Marvel Delays Avengers Sequels, “Devil Wears Prada 2” Takes the Spotlight

In a shake-up that’s caught fans off guard, Marvel Studios has officially delayed its next two Avengers films. “Avengers: Doomsday”, originally set for May 1, 2026, will now hit theaters on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars has also been pushed from May 7, 2027, to December 17, 2027.
While disappointing for fans, the delays are reportedly tied to Marvel’s efforts to raise the bar. Both films are said to be among the studio’s biggest undertakings yet. The Russo Brothers are back to direct Doomsday, and in a major twist, Robert Downey Jr. is returning—this time not as Iron Man, but as the villainous Dr. Doom.

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” Steps In
With the May 2026 slot now open, Disney is sliding in “The Devil Wears Prada 2“. The long-awaited sequel to the 2006 fashion classic will follow Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly as she navigates the decline of print media and the rise of digital fashion platforms. While casting hasn’t been confirmed, fans are hoping for the return of Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the original, is back on script duties, promising the same sharp wit and charm.

The decision to release Prada 2 alongside “Doomsday” in the same holiday season could be a smart move—offering audiences a choice between superhero spectacle and a more grounded, fashion-focused dramedy. Both are expected to perform well at the box office, especially during the lucrative holiday window.
Disney Shuffles Release Dates
Beyond those headlines, Disney also revealed more updates. Ridley Scott’s “The Dog Stars”, a post-apocalyptic drama based on Peter Heller’s novel, is set for March 27, 2026. Plus, “Avatar: The Way of Water” is getting an IMAX 3D re-release on October 3, 2025, ahead of the next chapter, “Avatar: Fire and Ash”, coming December 19, 2025.

All in all, while Marvel fans will have to wait a bit longer, the reshuffled schedule reflects Disney’s broader strategy: balancing blockbuster franchises with fresh, nostalgic content. Whether you’re into capes or couture, there’s something on the horizon for everyone.
