“Monster” Season 3 has yet to lock in a premiere date, but anticipation is already building for what’s next. According to Variety, a fourth season of the hit Netflix anthology series is currently in development and will focus on the infamous Lizzie Borden case. While Netflix has not officially confirmed the renewal, sources say a fall 2025 shoot is being planned. Reps for both Netflix and co-creator Ryan Murphy declined to comment.

Lizzie Borden was accused in 1892 of brutally murdering her father and stepmother with an axe in their Massachusetts home. Though she was acquitted, the gruesome nature of the crime and the media frenzy surrounding the trial cemented her place in true crime history. Her story has inspired numerous adaptations, including “The Lizzie Borden Chronicles” starring Christina Ricci and the 2018 film “Lizzie” with Chloë Sevigny and Kristen Stewart.
Season 3, expected to drop in late 2025, will explore the chilling story of Ed Gein—the notorious killer and grave robber whose crimes in the 1950s shocked the nation and inspired iconic horror villains like Norman Bates and Leatherface. Charlie Hunnam will lead the season as Gein, alongside Laurie Metcalf, Tom Hollander, and Olivia Williams.
Created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, “Monster” debuted in 2022 with “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”. That first season became one of Netflix’s biggest hits, earning Evan Peters a Golden Globe and Niecy Nash an Emmy. Season 2, which premiered in September 2024, told the story of the Menendez brothers and continued the franchise’s run of true crime success.
