Netflix’s Star-Studded Upcoming 6-Part “Pride & Prejudice” Series Is Set to Steal Your Heart

Netflix is gearing up for an exciting new adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Pride & Prejudice”, with a fresh six-part limited series set to bring the beloved characters to life. Emma Corrin (“Nosferatu”, “The Crown”), Jack Lowden (“Slow Horses”, “Benediction”), and Olivia Colman (“The Favourite”, “The Crown”) will take on the iconic roles of Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy, and Mrs. Bennet, respectively. Filming is set to begin later this year in the U.K.
Written by Dolly Alderton, the writer behind “Everything I Know About Love”, and directed by Euros Lyn (“Heartstopper”), this new take on the classic tale promises to stay true to the heart of Austen’s novel. Alderton, who will also serve as an executive producer alongside Corrin (in their EP debut), Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point, hopes to capture the essence of the story while appealing to both long-time fans and newcomers. Lisa Osborne will produce.
“Pride & Prejudice” Premise
Austen’s timeless story follows Elizabeth Bennet, the second eldest of five sisters, whose family is under pressure to secure good marriages due to the inheritance rules of their estate. Elizabeth’s interactions with the seemingly aloof Mr. Darcy unfold amidst a society where manners, morality, education, and marriage are key themes.
Netflix describes this new adaptation as a “faithful, classic” retelling of the novel, with Alderton aiming to inspire a new generation to embrace Austen’s work. “Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story, and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it,” Alderton shared. “Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life.”
For Emma Corrin, the opportunity to portray Elizabeth Bennet is a dream role. “Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Corrin. “To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honor. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”
While “Pride & Prejudice” has seen numerous adaptations over the years, from the iconic 1995 BBC miniseries starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, to the 2005 film with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen, Netflix is confident that this new version will resonate with audiences old and new. The streaming platform previously adapted “Persuasion” in 2022, starring Dakota Johnson.

Mona Qureshi, a representative from Netflix, expressed excitement about the series, saying, “We are delighted to be sharing this beloved British classic with our global audience. Pride & Prejudice is the ultimate romantic comedy. Dolly’s fierce intelligence and enormous heart, twinned with her genuine love of the Austen novel means she is able to bring new insights, whilst celebrating all that the generations of fans hold so dear.”
With such a talented cast, a fresh perspective from Dolly Alderton, and Euros Lyn at the helm, Netflix’s “Pride & Prejudice” is poised to capture the hearts of audiences once again.
