Netflix's 'Halston' Brings 70s and 80s Glam to Life

This miniseries has brought some mixed emotions for fans of the fashion designer who first came to fame in the early 1960s and of course our PopViewers had something to say!

Can we get a hand raise from all the fashion buffs??…or maybe half a hand raise. With the release of Netflix’s Halston, many viewers (and critics) are having mixed feelings about the series. Some may see it as an amazing homage to and representation of the 1960s fashion era that was just the beginning of an era filled with style reinvention, discos, smoking, and drugs. Others may see it as a heavily sex-filled show that could have done a littleee bit more to progress the story line of the life of one of America’s greatest fashion designers. This show definitely takes viewers for a rollercoaster ride if you don’t already know Halston’s story and may even leave you thinking ‘why haven’t I heard more about this guy??’.

Ewan McGregor stars in this miniseries that depicts Halston as being glamorous yet self-destructive over the course of about 20 years. He goes from designing hats for Jackie Kennedy that would put his name on the map, to totally reinventing himself and along with that American high fashion as we knew it. On the darker side of things for this icon, he finds himself having many long nights at the iconic Studio 54 and fueling the days that followed with drugs which would soon lead to his downfall.

In Halston, Krysta Rodriguez stars as Liza Minelli (with a Z) and it seems that according to the reviews she may have stolen the spotlight from Ewan McGregor! Her musical performances dazzled us while her deeper portrayal of an often caricatured icon gave us goosebumps that lasted throughout the entire series. Here’s what our PopViewers had to say:

While this show has been a hit for its portrayal of the fashion scene from the 60s to 80s, our PopViewers had mixed emotions about this show leaving it at a 57% Poppin’ rating. Most of the thumbs down (or sideways) stemming from the dialogue and character development being very underwhelming.
