Hulu is diving into the world of twisty, emotional drama with “Phony“, a new half-hour mystery series led by Connie Britton and rising star Sam Nivola.

The show follows a teenager named Sonny (Nivola), who wakes up in a hospital after a car crash—only to believe that the woman by his side, claiming to be his mom (Britton), is an impostor.
From there, “Phony” becomes a layered coming-of-age mystery that explores identity, trauma, and family, all wrapped in suspense. Ellen isn’t just Sonny’s mom—she’s also the principal at his school, adding even more tension to their already fragile bond.
Created by Nick Paley (“Marcel the Shell”) and co-showrun with Anthony King (“The Afterparty”, “Silicon Valley”), the series blends eerie tension with emotional depth. The show also boasts an impressive producing team, including Britton herself, Drew Goddard (“The Martian”), and Sarah Esberg.
