The Owens sisters are stirring up magic once again. After more than two decades, “Practical Magic 2” is officially in the works, with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman returning to reprise their fan-favorite roles. On July 18, Kidman gave fans a first glimpse behind the scenes, posting a sweet video of her and Bullock hugging in costume on set. “The witches are back! Owens sisters’ first day on set!” she captioned it—sending longtime fans into a frenzy.
The sequel is being produced by both Kidman and Bullock, who are also playing a hands-on role behind the scenes. With the same on-screen spark that made the 1998 original a cult classic, the two are aiming to create something that honors the past while looking ahead.

“Practical Magic 2” Cast Additions and One Big Exclusion
Familiar faces are joining them too: Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing are back as the iconic aunts, Jet and Frances. And a fresh lineup of talent—including Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod—is adding a new dynamic to the story.
However, one absence has caught the attention of fans. Evan Rachel Wood, who played Bullock’s daughter in the original, won’t be returning. She addressed it directly on Instagram, writing:
“I am getting asked about this a lot, so I’ll just clear it up now; I was not asked to come back and be in the #PracticalMagic sequel. I offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line,” she said.
“I was told they are re-casting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters.” The news has sparked disappointment and conversation across social media, with many fans expressing support for her.

“Practical Magic 2” is being directed by Susanne Bier (“Bird Box”), with original screenwriter Akiva Goldsman also back to help shape the story. Warner Bros. is planning to release the film on September 18, 2026.

While exact plot details are still under wraps, the sequel is expected to revisit the themes of love, loss, and the bonds of family that made the original so memorable—this time with a modern twist. Whether you’re a diehard fan or discovering the magic for the first time, this long-awaited return to the Owens family promises to be spellbinding.
