“Sesame Street” Is Coming to Netflix For Season 56—Here’s What You Need to Know

In a big move that has fans buzzing, “Sesame Street” is heading to Netflix. The switch follows Warner Bros. Discovery’s decision not to renew its deal with the show on Max (formerly HBO Max). Now, Netflix will be the new home for the beloved series, debuting a reimagined Season 56 and offering a massive library of classic episodes.

A New Chapter for “Sesame Street”
This partnership marks a major change in how the iconic children’s show will be distributed. While “Sesame Street” will continue airing on PBS and PBS Kids platforms, new episodes will premiere exclusively on Netflix worldwide. It’s a rare public-private collaboration aimed at expanding the show’s reach while keeping it accessible to all.
“This unique public-private partnership will enable Sesame Workshop to bring our research-based curriculum to young children around the world with Netflix’s global reach, while ensuring children in communities across the U.S. continue to have free access on public television to the Sesame Street they love,” said Sesame Workshop CEO Sherri Westin in a statement.
“Sesame Street” Season 56: A Legacy That Lives On
Season 56 will feature a fresh format: each episode will focus on one 11-minute story to allow for deeper storytelling and more character development. There’s also a brand-new animated segment, Tales From 123, giving viewers a peek inside the famous apartment building with characters like Elmo and Cookie Monster.
Fan favorites like Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck will return with new twists—Cookie Monster will even have his own Cookie Cart. And in a fun, new interactive element, characters will break the fourth wall to talk directly with viewers, creating a more engaging experience.

Netflix and Sesame Workshop are also developing “Sesame Street” video games, bringing the show’s educational mission into the gaming world. It’s all part of a push to meet kids where they are—with technology that makes learning fun. This move is especially important for Sesame Workshop, which has faced financial hurdles. The Netflix deal provides a critical new revenue stream while allowing the nonprofit to continue offering free content through PBS. It also ensures that children everywhere—regardless of background—can access quality educational programming.
For over 50 years, “Sesame Street” has educated and inspired children with its mix of humor, heart, and important life lessons. Now, with Netflix, the show is ready to reach a whole new generation—while staying true to the mission that’s made it a trusted name in early childhood education.
