“Slow Horses” Premise

Based on Mick Herron’s Slough House novels, “Slow Horses” follows a team of disgraced British intelligence officers banished to a dead-end department of MI5 known as Slough House. Leading this misfit crew is Gary Oldman as the irascible Jackson Lamb — a brilliant but perpetually grumpy veteran of the spy world who still manages to sniff out trouble lurking beneath London’s surface.

In Season 5, tensions spike when the team’s tech whiz, Roddy Ho, suddenly shows up with an unusually glamorous girlfriend — a development that raises eyebrows across Slough House. But when strange and unsettling incidents ripple through the city, the Slow Horses find themselves pulled into yet another tangled web. As always, Lamb relies on the unspoken but essential “London Rules”: watch your back.

The returning ensemble cast includes Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Ruth Bradley, James Callis, Tom Brooke, and Jonathan Pryce. Comedian and actor Nick Mohammed (“Ted Lasso”) will also guest star this season.

The new season is directed by Saul Metzstein, who earned an Emmy nomination for his work on Season 3. The series is produced by See-Saw Films, the company behind “Heartstopper”, with executive producers including Oldman himself, Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Julian Stevens, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Gail Mutrux, Douglas Urbanski, Adam Randall, and Graham Yost. The show was adapted for TV by Will Smith.

With its sharp writing, pitch-black humor, and layered performances, “Slow Horses” continues to elevate the spy genre, reminding viewers that even the outcasts can save the day — especially when everyone else drops the ball. “Slow Horses” Season 5 premieres on September 24.
