The Power universe just got even bigger. Straz has announced the co-leads for its highly anticipated prequel series Power: Origins. Spence Moore (Creed III, Brilliant Minds) has been tapped to play a young James “Ghost” St. Patrick, while Charlie Mann (The Watchers, Virdee) will step into the shoes of Tommy Egan. These characters, originally brought to life by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora, are finally getting the backstory fans have been craving.

A Fresh Look at Ghost and Tommy

From the very beginning, Ghost and Tommy were at the core of what made Power a cultural phenomenon. Their brotherhood, their conflicts, and their rise from the gritty streets of New York City to the top of the game cemented their legacy in TV history. With Power: Origins, STARZ is taking audiences back to where it all began.

Moore’s Ghost will explore the early life of the man who would eventually become the suave yet ruthless kingpin we know from the flagship series. Meanwhile, Mann’s Tommy promises to bring the wild energy and ride-or-die loyalty that fans adore, but from the perspective of a young man still figuring out who he is. Together, their chemistry will be crucial in showing how these two hustlers built their empire—and at what cost.

Expanding the Power Universe

Power: Origins marks the fourth spinoff in the ever-growing franchise. It follows the success of Power Book II: Ghost, which wrapped its fourth and final season in 2024; Power Book III: Raising Kanan, which aired its fourth season earlier this year and has already filmed its fifth and final season; and Power Book IV: Force, whose final season is set to premiere November 7.

Fans who’ve followed the franchise know that STARZ has carefully built out a world where every spinoff adds depth to the overarching story. From Ghost’s son Tariq’s journey in Book II to Kanan’s origin story in Raising Kanan, each series has shown different shades of loyalty, betrayal, ambition, and survival. With Origins, it’s Ghost and Tommy’s turn to get that spotlight, and expectations are sky-high.

Kanan Returns

Adding to the excitement, MeKai Curtis will reprise his role as Kanan Stark, bridging Origins with Raising Kanan. Kanan has always been a fan-favorite character—a mentor, frenemy, and ultimately a cautionary tale within the Power saga. Having Curtis continue to play Kanan at this stage in the story provides a thrilling throughline for long-time viewers.

Behind the Scenes Power Players

The creative team behind Power: Origins is stacked with familiar names. Sascha Penn will serve as showrunner and executive producer, co-writing the pilot with none other than Power creator Courtney A. Kemp. The series is also backed by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson through G-Unit Film and Television, Mark Canton through Canton Entertainment, Chris Selak, Kevin Fox, and Pete Chatmon. Kemp’s production company, End of Episode, remains deeply involved, ensuring continuity with the franchise’s roots. Lionsgate Television will produce for STARZ.

This powerhouse lineup of producers underscores STARZ’s commitment to keeping the Power franchise a cornerstone of its programming slate. With Kemp and 50 Cent still steering the ship, fans can rest assured the series will keep the same gritty, high-stakes energy that made Power a cultural juggernaut.

Why This Prequel Matters

Prequels can be tricky—fans know where the characters ultimately end up, so the challenge lies in making the journey compelling. But if any series has the raw material to pull it off, it’s Power. Ghost and Tommy’s rise wasn’t just about crime; it was about loyalty, ambition, and the price of chasing greatness.

By showing their younger years, Power: Origins has the chance to peel back the layers of these characters and reveal not just how they became the men we know, but why. What choices set Ghost on the path to becoming both businessman and drug kingpin? What fueled Tommy’s volatility and unshakable loyalty? These are the questions fans have been asking for years—and now, we’re finally getting answers.

Looking Ahead

There’s no official release date yet, but with the casting news breaking and production gearing up, the buzz is real. STARZ knows its audience is hungry for more of the Power universe, and this prequel is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious entries yet.

If the performances of Spence Moore and Charlie Mann can capture even a fraction of the magic Hardwick and Sikora created, fans are in for a wild ride. One thing’s for sure: Ghost and Tommy’s origin story isn’t just a trip down memory lane—it’s the next must-watch chapter in a franchise that refuses to slow down.
