Sugar? Yes, please! While it is not the Maroon 5 hit from 2014, “Sugar“, the mystery series on Apple TV+ starring Colin Farrell, has been picked up for a second season. The series first premiered in April 2024 to positive reviews. Farrell plays John Sugar, a private investigator recruited by a wealthy movie producer to find his missing granddaughter. The show is genre-bending, with a plot twist changing the course of the entire series about midway through the first season. With a second season in development, we can’t wait to see what happens next.

“Since its premiere, audiences have been gripped by the mysteries and twists of Sugar, with an incredible performance by Colin Farrell at the center,” stated Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “Colin, Simon Kinberg, Audrey Chon, and the entire team behind this series have brilliantly blended genres to create a compelling, can’t-miss experience that keeps viewers guessing. We cannot wait to see where Detective John Sugar finds himself in season two.”

Colin Farrell, who also executive produced the series, is an Academy Award-nominated actor. He has been considered a “leading man” since starring in various blockbusters and independent films in the 2000s. Most recently, he is starring in HBO’s series The Penguin, which follows the character’s rise to power in Gotham City after “The Batman” movie in 2022, in which Farrell also appeared. “The Penguin” airs on Sundays on HBO until November. He received widespread critical acclaim for “The Banshees of Inisherin”, earning his second Golden Globe win after his performance in “In Bruges” in 2008.

Farrell will next be seen in “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey”, a romantic fantasy film co-starring Margot Robbie. The film is set to be released in May 2025.

Apple TV+ has steadily grown into a formidable streaming platform, with big hits like “Ted Lasso”, “Presumed Innocent”, “Lessons in Chemistry”, “Slow Horses”, “Bad Sisters”, and “Shrinking”, making them a force to be reckoned with in the streaming wars. The shows have achieved success culturally, commercially, and critically, garnering awards and audience acclaim.
