Taron Egerton has officially taken himself out of the running for the next James Bond — and he’s doing so with surprising honesty. In a new interview with Collider, the “Kingsman” star said he doesn’t see himself as the right fit for Amazon’s reboot of the iconic spy franchise.

Taron Egerton Weighs In On Bond
“No. And I don’t think I’m a good choice for it. I think I’m too messy for that,” Egerton said when asked if he’d ever throw his hat in the ring.
The 35-year-old Welsh actor praised the legacy of Bond, particularly Daniel Craig’s run, but explained why he’s not the guy to follow in those footsteps. “I really love the character and particularly Daniel Craig’s tenure. But I think I wouldn’t be good at it, and I think there’s so many cool, younger actors who would be great for it. I think it would be wasted on me, probably,” he added.

Egerton’s perspective aligns with current reports suggesting Amazon MGM Studios is seeking a fresh face — likely under 30 — to take on 007. With acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve (Dune) attached to the next installment, names like Jacob Elordi, Regé-Jean Page, Tom Holland, and Harris Dickinson are already being tossed around as potential contenders.
Though Egerton has already dipped into the world of espionage with “Kingsman”, he’s made it clear that he’s looking to branch out. His latest project, “She Rides Shotgun”, a gritty crime thriller, is a testament to his desire to explore more diverse roles rather than be tied to a single franchise.

The actor has also spoken openly about the immense physical and emotional demands that come with a role like Bond, something he’s not eager to take on at this point in his career.
While fans might be disappointed, Egerton’s decision feels less like a missed opportunity and more like a sign of maturity — an actor choosing roles that match not just his talents, but his truth.
As the search for the next Bond continues, one thing’s certain: whoever takes on the tux will have massive shoes to fill. And while it won’t be Taron Egerton, his candor and clarity have only deepened his appeal as one of Hollywood’s most thoughtful and grounded stars.
