Great news for fans of The Diplomat! The show has already been renewed for a third season, even before the second season has aired. This early renewal shows just how confident Netflix is in the series’ continued success after its well-received first season. Keri Russell, who stars in the show, earned both Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her powerful performance in Season 1.

The second season, which drops on October 31, will feature six fresh episodes—and the excitement doesn’t stop there. Academy Award winner Allison Janney is joining the cast as the Vice President, making things even more interesting. We’re counting down the days for Season 2 and are thrilled that a third is already on the way!

“The Diplomat”

“The Diplomat” first premiered in the spring of 2023 and was a success for Netflix. The show was in the top 10 of the Netflix charts for four weeks. The show quickly was compared to shows that could have aired on ABC in the 2010s and was compared to “The West Wing” which Allison Janney starred in the 2000s.

The twisty political thriller picks up right where the first season ended. With a trailer released earlier this week, we see that there is lots to be excited about.

Executive Producer Debora Cahn, in an exclusive interview with Netflix’s Tudum, teased the high-stakes drama awaiting Kate in Season 2. “Season 1 ended with Kate’s realization that the attack on a British warship wasn’t the work of a hostile nation — it was the British prime minister,” Cahn revealed. “Now, she has to prove it.”

Season 2 finds Kate grappling with the fallout — both literal and emotional — from the Season 1 finale’s explosive cliffhanger. “Kate’s colleagues and her almost-ex-husband are victims of a politically motivated attack that takes some lives and shatters the rest,” Cahn told Tudum. “The marriage she thought was over, the relationship she thought was beginning … all of it, in pieces.” The stakes for Kate have never been higher, and as her investigation unfolds, she’ll find herself questioning everyone around her — even those she’s closest to.

Keri Russell, who was nominated for an Emmy for her portrayal of Kate Wyler, is just as excited as fans to return for another round of high-stakes diplomacy. “I am thrilled to be headed back for another round of this smart screwball show. Dare I say it’s fun?” she said.

Season 2 of “The Diplomat” is not to be missed as it is a great set up for a special second season. With production already underway for Season 3 in both London and New York, we hope to see more of “The Diplomat” on our screens next year.

“Season 3 flips the chessboard. Kate lives the particular nightmare that is getting what you want,” creator and showrunner Debora Cahn said in a statement. Catch up on “The Diplomat” ahead of Season 2 on Netflix on October 31.

Streaming Renewals

In a world where content is not produced as frequently as it once was, this is an exciting time to be a fan of these Netflix shows. We hope to see this trend continue in the future and that more series are given the time to find an audience. Both “Nobody Wants This” and “The Diplomat” are streaming on Netflix.
