But that’s easier said than done. The US and the UK are allies, sharing intelligence instead of spying on each other. “So how do you investigate the PM? Who do you trust?” Cahn adds, ramping up the tension. If that wasn’t enough, Kate’s personal life is in ruins after the politically motivated bombing that almost made her a widow. Now, her only real ally is her estranged, yet very much alive, husband, Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).
A Deadly Explosion and an Unraveling Marriage
Season 2 finds Kate grappling with the fallout — both literal and emotional — from the Season 1 finale’s explosive cliffhanger. “Kate’s colleagues and her almost-ex-husband are victims of a politically motivated attack that takes some lives and shatters the rest,” Cahn told Tudum. “The marriage she thought was over, the relationship she thought was beginning … all of it, in pieces.” The stakes for Kate have never been higher, and as her investigation unfolds, she’ll find herself questioning everyone around her — even those she’s closest to.
Add to the mix Vice President Grace Penn, played by the legendary Allison Janney. “The VP thinks Kate’s after her job,” Cahn revealed. “She’s not entirely wrong. Kate thinks she understands the VP. She is mistaken.”
