Since premiering in July 2025, “The Hunting Wives” has become a breakout hit on Netflix. Based on May Cobb’s bestselling novel, the show stars Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman as part of a wealthy Texas social circle hiding some seriously dark secrets. But fans of the book may be surprised—because this adaptation doesn’t stick to the script.

“The Hunting Wives” Premise and Changes From Book
Set in the upscale town of Maple Brook, the story revolves around a group of glamorous wives entangled in obsession, betrayal, and murder. While the show keeps the book’s central themes of privilege and secrecy, it adds plenty of shocking twists—including a new killer and darker character arcs.
One of the biggest changes? In the book, Abby’s pregnancy is linked to her murder, but the series reveals Margo is pregnant—and she’s also the killer, not Jill as originally written. The show also expands on reproductive rights in Texas through Margo’s decision to get an abortion, adding modern weight to the storyline.

Another bold move: Sophie, the book’s protagonist, doesn’t just walk away from her toxic marriage. Instead, she kills Margo’s brother in a rage and covers it up—marking a jaw-dropping departure from her book counterpart’s healing arc.
With season one ending on a cliffhanger and showrunner Rebecca Cutter teasing new mysteries and a possible time jump, “The Hunting Wives” is just getting started. Love it or hate it, this adaptation knows how to keep you watching—and guessing. “The Hunting Wives” is streaming now on Netflix.
