The Texas murder mystery returns with an original storyline, a star-studded cast, and all the messy drama fans love.

Grab your mud boots, The Hunting Wives is officially returning for Season 2. Today, Netflix announced that Malin Åkerman and Brittany Snow will be back to reprise their roles in the popular thriller. This time, the new season will be released as a full Netflix-branded series in nearly every country where the platform is available.

The second season will consist of eight episodes, diving into the racy, twisted world that fans couldn’t get enough of the first time around. While Season 1 was adapted from May Cobb’s bestselling novel of the same name, Season 2 will take on an original storyline. It will pick up right where the finale left off, with Åkerman and Snow’s characters not on good terms. As old secrets unfold and new enemies arise, the two women will be forced back into each other’s lives. Netflix hints at the chaos ahead, asking, “As they play their dangerous games, are they the hunters or the hunted?”

Despite many main characters dying in the first season, several familiar faces are also making their return. Alongside Åkerman and Snow, fans can expect to see Jaime Ray Newman, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit, and George Ferrier back in the mix.

Rebecca Cutter, creator and show runner of the suspense and scandal filled series, describes the upcoming season as another wild ride through the fictional town of Maple Brook. “I’m so excited to write these amazing characters again,” Cutter said in a statement. “I can’t wait to take the audience on another sexy, twisted, batsh-t crazy ride through Maple Brook.”

The Hunting Wives follows the story of a Texan woman whose life takes a dark turn after when she meets a group of socialites, after relocating to Boston. Her life is quickly becomes consumed by obsession, seduction, and murder. Season 1 premiered on Netflix in the U.S. on July 21 and quickly became a success, spending five weeks on the global English Top 10 TV list. Also raking in more than 20 million views, despite only being available in the US.

The show’s popularity didn’t just boost Netflix’s numbers, it reignited interest in Cobb’s original book. Publisher Berkley reported that since the series premiere, the novel has gone back to press twice, and sales across all formats jumped 5,000 percent compared to the previous year.

Åkerman and Snow also joined in on the hype when the renewal was announced. On Sept. 12, Netflix shared a playful video on social media. In the clip, the two actresses chat over a video call before Åkerman, wearing her character Margo’s wig, delivers the line, “Pack your boots and load your guns. We’re going back to Maple Brook for Season 2, baby.”
