The Walking Dead Wants to Go Global—And We’re So Here for It

Just when you thought The Walking Dead had conquered every corner of post-apocalyptic America, executive producer Scott M. Gimple is out here teasing a worldwide undead takeover. That’s right—if he has his way, zombies won’t just be terrorizing the U.S. anymore; they’ll be catching international flights.

The Walking Dead’s Global Takeover Has Already Begun
Speaking to ScreenRant at Multicon LA’s Wildfire Benefit, Gimple hinted that the TWD universe is gearing up for even more global “experiments.” We’ve already seen Daryl Dixon go full backpacker mode in France, with Spain next on his undead itinerary. But Gimple’s wish list? Tokyo, Africa, and… Iceland?
“There’s one that we’re working on that I’m very, very excited to see that we’ve never been before. But I’d also love to see it in Tokyo, I would love to see it in Africa, and I would love to see it in Iceland. I know that’s a weird one, but we want to spam the globe because there are stories all over the globe.”
Spam away, sir! Given how Fear the Walking Dead took us to the West Coast and Dead City dragged Maggie and Negan to a crumbling New York, an international expansion feels like the next logical step. And honestly, who wouldn’t want to see Tokyo’s neon-lit streets or the vast landscapes of Africa overrun by walkers?

The Walking Dead’s Lost Experiments—And What Comes Next
Gimple also touched on past efforts to expand the universe beyond American shores—some of which, unfortunately, never made it to screen.
“It’s so integral to Daryl Dixon’s story, but even beyond that, we want to go [more places]. We want to see other characters throughout the world, and how they’re faring. And we have had a lot of experiments to that. We’ve actually done really cool stories towards that, but they just haven’t come to fruition for this reason or that. But I will say that by doing them, I’ve essentially seen those shows in my brain, and I really like them.”
That last bit sounds like a TWD multiverse of untold zombie chaos just waiting to happen. And if Gimple has already envisioned these shows in his head, why not make them a reality?
Where Could The Walking Dead Go Next?
At this point, the possibilities are endless. Zombies scaling the Eiffel Tower? A Walker-infested gondola ride through Venice? A full-on 28 Days Later crossover? Wherever TWD decides to go next, one thing’s for sure—the apocalypse isn’t just an American problem anymore.
