We're Keeping Pride Going ALL Year Long

Pride month may be coming to an end, but here at PopViewers, we celebrate Pride ALL year long! We've compiled a list of some of the most recent LGBT+ content to come out that our users are loving! Check them out and then let us know what you think on the app!

The Legend of the Underground

Watch on HBO Max

Pride is a time to both celebrate how far we’ve come as a community AND recognize just how far we still have to go. The Legend of the Underground is a look at the struggle against the devastating discrimination in Nigeria that the LGBT+ community faces today. The documentary follows two groups of “chosen families”- one is in New York where Micheal Ighodaro lives with his friends who are part of the Nigerian diaspora. He works to advocate for the community he left behind in Nigeria after being attacked because of his identity from America. The other group is back in Nigeria where this tight-knit group of friends struggles over the decision to either seek safety abroad or stay and fight for their rights. If you’ve ever questioned why Pride is important to celebrate, this documentary is a must-watch.

Veneno

Watch on HBO Max

This series tells the true-life story of Spanish transgendered singer Cristina Ortiz Rodríguez- better known as La Veneno. One of our PopViewers, Slyvia, stated that it was “the best show of 2020.” We’d have to agree with her there- this show is a total knockout!

It’s A Sin

Created by Russell T Davies (the writer of Queer As Folk) this series tells the story of three young boys who move to London and start new lives. However, just as they’re discovering their sexual freedom, AIDS hits, and they’re forced to reckon with the reality of a virus that much of the world was ignoring.

Legendary

Watch on HBO Max

C’mon Vogue! This competition show pulls from ball culture as different “houses” compete against one another for a chance to win a cash prize. This is one that’ll have you gooped and gagged on the couch!

We’re Here

Watch on HBO Max

In this heartwarming series, Shangela, Eureka, and Bob the Drag Queen, head to small towns to recruit locals into participating in a drag performance. The show does a wonderful job in driving home how similar we all are to one another even if we come from different backgrounds. Come for the biker-gang member trying on heels, stay for the tears that quickly follow.

Love Victor

Watch on Hulu

This spin-off of the movie, Love, Simon, tells the story of Victor who, like Simon, is also facing a journey of self-discovery and exploring his sexual orientation. It’s hard to understate what a gift it is for young queer teens to have representation in a show like this!
