What to Watch This Weekend

Things are about to get spooky this weekend! Between a new "Conjuring" film and a Stephen King project, this week is an embarrassment of riches for fans of horror! But don't worry- there's still plenty of other new content to watch for those who prefer to sleep soundly at night! Here's what's poppin'!

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

In theaters and on HBO Max

You’ve heard of “my dog ate my homework” but have you heard of “the devil made me commit murder?” In this third installment in The Conjuring series, real life Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) are back in action as they investigate a supernatural occurrence unlike anything they’ve ever dealt with before. Is the murder suspect using demonic possession as part of his defense lying? Or could he be telling the truth?

Lisey’s Story

Watch on Apple TV+

Horror legend, Stephen King, comes to Apple TV+ with this eight-episode adaptation of his 2006 book of the same name. In this thriller, Julianne Moore stars as the widow of a famous author (Clive Owen) who must face unsettling memories of her late husband that she had tried to block out of her mind. King has stated that this is his favorite of his own books, so you can imagine that the pressure was on to make this adaptation just as good!

Sweet Tooth

Watch on Netflix

Based on the DC Comic, this post-apocalyptic fairytale is poised to become one of the buzziest series of the summer! The show is set in the near future after the world has been ravaged by a disease that’s wiped out much of the human population and turned a generation of children into what appears to be part human and part animal. The series follows one such boy, who now must survive in a world that fears these animal-human hybrids.

But wait… there’s more!

We Are Lady Parts (Watch on Peacock)

This sitcom about an all-female Muslim punk band trying to make it in London has won wild praise in England- both for its disruption of Muslim stereotypes AND its original music! Now Americans can see what the excitement is all about as it premieres on Peacock!

Dancing Queens (Watch on Netflix)

Kick-off Pride month with this Swedish film about a girl with dreams of dancing who gets a job cleaning at a struggling drag club. She desperately wants to be a part of the show, but there’s just one issue… she’s a girl.

The 43rd Annual Kennedy Center Honors (Sunday night on CBS, 8 pm ET)

After a six-month-long delay, the Kennedy Center Honors arrives at the perfect time- serving as a beacon of hope for America’s devastated arts sector. This year the honorees are Joan Baez, Garth Brooks, Debbie Allen, Midori, and Dick Van Dyke.

Pose (Sunday night on FX, 10 pm ET)

The final episode of this groundbreaking series airs on Sunday night. While we’re sad to see the show go, we’re SO glad that it existed and are grateful for all that it did for trans artists behind and in front of the camera.
