What to Watch This Weekend

As we sat here writing our weekend watchlist, we couldn't help but wonder- what will YOU be watching? We've got you covered in case you need any ideas!

AND JUST LIKE THAT…

Watch on HBO Max

If you couldn’t help but wonder what the ladies of “Sex and the City” are up to all of these years later, you are in luck! In this new ten-episode limited series, we catch up with our favorite gal pals, Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte almost twenty years from when we last saw them. (Samantha, sadly, has gone the way of Barneys.) Joining the squad in her place are some new characters played by Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman, and Sara Ramírez. Pour us a cosmo and hand us a Magnolia cupcake, because we’re definitely tuning in for this one!

WEST SIDE STORY

Watch in Theaters

It all begins tonight! Steven Spielberg directs this remake of one of the world’s most beloved musicals. It’s the same classic story you know and love, but with a new sheen that many critics have said makes it surpass the original! It’s love at first sight for Tony and Maria as they spot each other at a high school dance, but trouble lies ahead for these two lovers when it’s discovered that they’re connected to two different NYC gangs- the Jets and the Sharks. Special shoutout to entertainment legend, Rita Moreno who played Anita in the original film and appears in this remake as a newly created character named Valentina.

LANDSCAPERS

Watch on HBO

If there’s one thing you can trust HBO to do, it’s to create a prestige true-crime miniseries that we’ll all be talking about around the water cooler (aka Twitter) for weeks to come. Inspired by the true story of Christopher and Susan Edwards, HBO’s latest series stars Olivia Colman and David Thewlis. They play a married couple who get sentenced to prison for murdering Susan’s parents and burying them in their backyard. The series explores what it is that would drive a couple to commit this sort of crime.

Further Viewing:

ENCOUNTER (Watch on Amazon Prime Video)

Riz Ahmed stars in this sci-fi thriller about a Marine who goes on a rescue mission to save his two young sons from an alien threat. The film also stars Octavia Spencer, Janina Gavankar, and Rory Cochrane.

THE UNFORGIVABLE (Watch on Netflix)

Okay, this is a heavy watch- but it DOES stars Sandra Bullock! The movie tells the story of a woman who returns to her hometown after serving twenty years in prison for killing a local police officer. Besides looking for redemption, she’s also searching for her sister who was adopted by another family. Get out the tissues and the wine for this one.

WELCOME TO EARTH (Watch on Disney+)

Watch Will Smith check items off of his bucket list in this new nature documentary from Disney+. The A-lister isn’t merely traveling to see the pyramids, however. In this series, he’s going on an adventure to the world’s most hidden and extraordinary wonders. We’d consider ourselves more “indoor people” but this one has us ready to go out exploring.

THE HOUSEWIVES OF THE NORTH POLE (Watch on Peacock)

Okay, so this isn’t ACTUALLY a new series of the Real Housewives- but it does star Kyle Richards of RHOBH fame! She co-stars with Betsy Brandt as a pair of best friends who have won the Best Holiday House decorating competition nine years in a row. However, when an argument erupts between the two, their chance of winning for the tenth year in a row is as up in the air as Santa’s reindeer.

ABBOTT ELEMENTARY (Watch on ABC and on Hulu)

Sure, there are plenty of shows about kids in school- but what about the teachers?!? This new ABC workplace comedy follows a group of teachers in a Philadelphia public school who, despite the odds, work to help their students succeed. The show has an incredible cast of actors like Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, and Sheryl Lee Ralph.

NICOLE BYER: BIG BEAUTIFUL WEIRDO (Watch on Netflix)

Needless to say, Nicole Byer nailed it! The comedian brings her first solo standup special to Netflix and explores topics such as her misadventures in dating and sex.
