What to Watch This Weekend

You've gotten through Christmas, your OOO email reply is on... now what do you watch? If you're feeling stuck, here are some suggestions to get you started!

BEING THE RICARDOS

Watch on Amazon Prime Video

We come to this place for magic. (And by magic, we mean Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem as Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz delivering punchy monologues written by Aaron Sorkin.) This biopic follows the pair during a critical juncture in their careers in which Ball has been accused of being a communist and rumors swirled about the couple’s relationship. Fans of “I Love Lucy” will get a real kick out of seeing some of the most iconic moments in the series history replicated. Whether or not viewers will “Love” the film remains to be seen, but we can’t wait for their reactions on the app!

SING 2

Watch in Theaters

Are you warmed up? The characters from the first installment in this franchise are back for another tale about overcoming fear and stepping into the spotlight. Expect some incredible musical numbers, plenty of laughs, and plenty of fun trying to piece together which celebrity is voicing each animal. Voice actors include Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Pharrell Williams, Letitia Wright, and Bono! We’re ready to serve you VOCALS! (Sorry in advance to those sitting around us.)

THE MATRIX: RESURRECTIONS

Watch in Theaters and on HBO Max

Anyone else been having strange dreams lately? They likely don’t hold a candle to the bizarre ones that Neo (Keanu Reeves) has been experiencing. (All this despite his work with his therapist, played by Neil Patrick Harris.) Details of the movie’s actual plot have been kept securely under wraps, but fans of the first three installments in the franchise will no doubt want to see what happens in this addition to the Matrix canon.

Further Viewing:

EMILY IN PARIS: Season 2 (Watch on Netflix)

The time has come to say bonjour again to everyone’s favorite digital marketing “pro” Emily. She’s back for more rom-com adventures in the City of Light. No, there’s still not much substance here… but that doesn’t mean that the show is not a wonderful escape from our everyday lives.

DON’T LOOK UP (Watch on Netflix)

What happens when you put basically every a-list celebrity into a satirical comedy about climate change? Well, you’ll just have to watch “Don’t Look Up” to find out. This film was directed by Adam McKay and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett, Tyler Perry, and Meryl Streep. The story revolves is centered around two astronomers who go on a media tour to warn humanity about an extinction-level comet that’s headed towards Earth. Unfortunately, their warning is met with hostility and doubt from everyone around them… sound familiar?

BEANIE MANIA (Watch on HBO Max)

This one is for the 90s kids. Remember the hype around Beanie Babies?!? HBO has just released a documentary about people who likely were WAY more obsessed with them than you were. Be prepared though- it’s definitely going to make you regret ever losing that Princess Diana Beanie Baby!

VIGIL (Watch on Peacock)

A Scottish murder-mystery thriller set on board a submarine? Sign us up! Listen, the show is likely not going to change your life. But if you’re looking for a six-episode pulpy binge this holiday season, this just might be the one!
