What to Watch This Weekend

Prefer your drama off the football field this weekend? Don't worry, we've got you covered! Here's all of the new content that's poppin'!

BEL-AIR

Watch on Peacock

Now this is a story all about how a West Philadelphia born and raised teenager named Will’s life gets flipped-turned upside down after he’s sent to move in with his auntie and uncle in Bel-Air. Sound familiar? It’s because it is! This re-imagination of the iconic sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is set in modern-day and is a grittier and more dramatic take on the original story. The series actually came about after a fan-made trailer (created by Morgan Cooper) went viral on YouTube back in 2019. Bring on the drama- we can’t wait!

INVENTING ANNA

Watch on Netflix

Totally fake? Or totally fabulous? You’ll have to watch to find out. This limited series follows a journalist chasing down the story of Anna Delvey, a scammer who managed to convince New York high society that she was a German heiress. It’s the first show that queen Shonda Rhimes has created since Scandal- so you know it’s gonna be juicy! Equipped with a supernatural self-confidence, Anna (played by Julia Garner) swindles people and businesses out of hundreds of thousands of dollars as she tries to make it big in New York. If you can make it there, you’ll make it anywhere.

MARRY ME

Watch in Theaters or on Peacock

Just in time for Valentine’s Day comes this rom-com starring Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, and Maluma. JLo plays a pop star, Kat Valdez, who makes the rash decision of marrying a complete stranger on the spot at her show instead of following through on marrying her cheating fiancé. The unlikely couple then has to learn how to cohabitate despite the different worlds from which they come from. Can they find true love together? Being that this is a classic rom-com, we have a good feeling about it. Regardless, we can’t wait to watch and find out anyway!

Based on the book by Agatha Christie, this mystery is centered around a couple’s idyllic honeymoon that gets cut tragically short when…. wait for it… there is a death on the Nile. It’s directed by Kenneth Branagh and stars Gal Godot and Armie Hammer.

LOVE IS BLIND: Season 2 (Watch on Netflix)

It feels almost hard to believe, but when “Love Is Blind” first blew up on Netflix, we only knew of Corona as a beer. Two full years later, the show is back for a second season. The premise remains the same- a group of singles tries to find love from pods without ever seeing one another. Will the experiment work again?

LINE SISTERS (Watch on Lifetime)

Talk about a killer reunion. In this Lifetime movie, four sorority sisters reunite at a Black Greek Weekend celebration. After they all arrive, however, secrets from their past begin to surface and inexplicable seems to lurk around every corner. They can pledge to get out alive, but will they?

MS. PAT: Y’ALL WANNA HEAR SOMETHING CRAZY (Watch on Netflix)

Ms. Pat (aka Patricia Williams) has come to Netflix with her first hour-long special. In the special, she focuses mostly on her life growing up poor and Black in Atlanta in the 1980s. As she says herself, “Learn how to take the darkest s*** in your life and turn that s*** into laughter. ‘Cause when you can laugh at it, that means you got control of it.”

SUPER BOWL LVI (Watch on NBC and Peacock)

This one needs no explanation, but just in case you don’t have the pigs-in-a-blankets ready yet, a heads up that the Super Bowl is this Sunday night! The game is between the LA Rams (who will be playing in their home stadium) and the Cincinnati Bengals. Hip Hop fans will not want to miss the halftime show which is set to feature Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige.
