What to Watch This Weekend

A holiday weekend means one more day for binging! We've got you covered if you're looking for something new!

JEEN-YUHS: A KANYE TRILOGY

Watch on Netflix

Love him or hate him, there’s no denying that Kanye West gets people talking. The first act of his documentary trilogy, VISION, is now streaming on Netflix and follows West before 2003 when he was in his early twenties. Over the next two acts of the trilogy, we watch as Kanye transitions from being a striving young artist into the omnipresent tabloid figure that he is today. Whether you’re a fan of his or not, it is fascinating to look back at West’s career in relation to the figure he’s become. It’s an examination of fame, ego, family, and delusion that makes for a fascinating watch.

THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL: Season 4

Watch on Amazon Prime Video

After a two-year hiatus, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is finally back for a fourth season. In case you’ve forgotten over…umm… an entire global pandemic…. the third season of Maisel ended with Midge getting fired from her biggest professional gig to date after making some questionable jokes. Will this new season find a no-holds-barred Midge ready to drop her filter and say whatever she wants? Was cancel culture a thing back in the 1950s? There’s no telling for sure, but you’d best believe that we’ll be watching to find out.

TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE

Watch on Netflix

Leatherface is back. Similar to the recent Scream movie, this film serves as both a reboot and sequel to the original 1974 classic. Do we call it a requel? The movie follows a group of teenage influencers who travel to the ghost town of Harlow, Texas in an effort to revitalize it. It’s not long, however, until the infamous Leatherface is reawakened and all hell breaks loose. This film is notable in that it’s Netflix’s first horror franchise film that it’s putting out as an original. Expect surprises, scares, and blood.

SEVERANCE (Watch on Apple TV+)

This psychological thriller brings whole new meaning to finding a work-life balance. The basic premise is this- imagine that there was a technology that could make you forget your personal life while at work, but then also make you forget all of your work responsibilities when you are at home. Certainly, there are aspects of this that sound appealing, but as the characters in this series soon discover, leaving work at the door is not all it’s cracked up to be. The series is directed by Ben Stiller and stars Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette, and Christopher Walken.

DOG (Watch in Theaters)

Oh… there’s a dog in the trailer for the new Channing Tatum movie? We didn’t notice. This human/dog buddy comedy follows a former Army Ranger who gets tasked with bringing an unruly dog down the Pacific Coast to a fellow soldier’s funeral. On their journey, the two deal with grief, trauma, and the struggles of post-combat life.

UNCHARTED (Watch in Theaters)

Based on the ultra-successful video game franchise of the same name, this movie stars Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg as two treasure hunters on a mission to recover a fortune lost by Ferdinand Magellan 500 years ago. Think Indiana Jones, but a different name.

DOWNFALL: THE CASE AGAINST BOEING (Watch on Netflix)

Within months of one another, two catastrophic crashes of Boeing 737s killed 346 people. This documentary explores the greed and corruption that led to what should have been an avoidable tragedy. Fair warning- be ready to be enraged.
