If you’re anything like me, your phone already makes you really anxious. Everything from three little typings dots to a missed call makes people just a little bit on edge. So it stands to reason that any internet-based horror film is usually the stuff of nightmares, a worst-case-scenario version of what happens if you can’t close instagram.

So if you haven’t seen “Drop” yet, the new Universal Pictures film from director Christopher Landon, then now is the time to check it out. Here’s the gist of it: A woman goes on a first date off a dating app – while she’s there, she gets creepy airdrops telling her to murder him, or her son dies. What’s a girl to do!

If you still haven’t made your way for a fright in theaters or at home, here’s 5 reasons why you should.

1) Meghan Fahy and Brendan Sklenar Make The Perfect Movie Pair

Up and coming stars Meghann Fahy and Brendan Sklenar are the perfect duo for this sweet date turned horrific evening, playing Violet Gates and Henyry Campbell, respectively. Their natural chemistry and cute banter make them a convincing on-screen first meeting. They have you rooting for them to work out, even when it seems like all is lost, and possibly on the edge of death.

Meghann Fahy has been on the radar since her debut in Freeform’s The Bold Type, and has only continued to join star studded casts on “The White Lotus” season 2 and “The Perfect Couple”. Next up, she will be seen on the new limited series “Sirens” alongside Julianne Moore and Kevin Bacon. Here, it’s nice to see her shine as a final girl and main character. Brandon Sklenar on the other hand, known for his work on 1923.

2) It’s For The Modern Age

A lot of older scary movies are quickly unraveled by the invention of the telephone. Even newer movies often leave serious plot holes that a quick judgment call or text message would take care of instantly. Our mystery villain in “Drop” leaves no stone unturned.

Any phone line you would use to call for help and any exit to the building you would try to escape from, our antagonist has already thought of. It’s nice to see a fun and campy film that still leaves pieces and plot points up to the imagination.

3) Perfect Comedic Moments

In most tense films, even the scariest of moments can be broken up by some comedic relief. Such is the case of Matt the waiter, whose first day working at the restaurant is turned upside down by this hostile online takeover within the restaurant. Matt, played by comedian and writer Jeffrey Self, has the sort of improv energy that makes you wish a Drop spinoff was made just for his quips.

4) It Will Keep You Guessing

Here’s the thing. When i was watching this movie – i was genuinely unsure how Violet was going to get out of this situation. Kill her date, or her son dies. Tell anyone? Her son dies, and that person probably dies too. Call for help or leave the restaurant? Nope, she’s being watched everywhere. AND THIS WHOLE TIME SHE ALSO HAS TO BE ON A DATE. The stuff of nightmares, truly. I kept thinking to myself “If this was me – how would i get out of this?” and my answer was that i genuinely don’t know. But alas that’s the point of a good movie – Violet has to figure it out, while I sit and eat popcorn.

5) Good Campy Fun

In the era of the Serious Oscar Contender ™, it’s nice to know that there are still some films that are meant for a fun evening in the theater or on your couch. This is one of those movies. Scary, funny, tense and exciting – it’s everything a movie should be, without the overbearing weight of taking itself too seriously.
