Peacock has officially greenlit “Dig“, a new half-hour comedy that brings together Parks and Recreation alumni Amy Poehler and Mike Schur for their first project since the beloved NBC series wrapped a decade ago.
“Dig” Premise and Background
Poehler will headline the series while also co-writing the pilot with Schur. Both will serve as executive producers. The show is based on “Excavations”, a 2023 novel by Kate Myers, and follows four women working at an archaeological dig site in Greece. Their discovery of a deeply buried secret with world-altering implications launches them into the middle of a dangerous global conspiracy.
Joining the creative team is J.J. Philbin (“Only Murders in the Building”), who will co-write and executive produce. Additional executive producers include Morgan Sackett (“Parks and Recreation”), Dave Becky (“Loot”), David Miner (Parks and Recreation), Sharon Jackson (“Life & Beth”), Kate Arend (“Russian Doll”), and Jordan Grief (“Lucy and Desi”), with Myers also serving as a co-executive producer. The series is being produced by Universal Television.
Since “Parks and Recreation” ended, Amy Poehler has continued to thrive in comedy, most recently as the host of the popular podcast “GoodHang”, where she shares sharp, hilarious, and open conversations with guests like Tina Fey, Quinta Brunson, Martin Short, Paul Rudd, and Kathryn Hahn.
Meanwhile, Mike Schur has remained a major force in television, serving as a producer on the Emmy-winning series “Hacks” and creating “A Man on the Inside”, a dark comedic Netflix hit that’s currently in production for its second season.
With “Dig”, the duo trades Pawnee’s pit for an international mystery, offering a fresh comedic take on historical discovery and espionage.
