The iconic reality series “Fear Factor” is making a comeback, and Fox is betting big on a revamped version that’s as extreme as ever. Dubbed “Fear Factor: The Next Chapter” (working title), the new series will blend jaw-dropping stunts with a high-stakes social strategy game—and fans are already buzzing about whether original host Joe Rogan will return.
While speaking with reporters ahead of Fox’s upfront presentation, Entertainment President Michael Thorn confirmed that it’s still early days for the production—and Rogan’s involvement remains up in the air.
“Fear Factor: The Next Chapter” Early Developments
“We just ordered the series and we are in the process of hiring showrunners and everything right now,” Thorn said. “Obviously he’s major talent tied to the show, but it’s too early for us to say how we’re going to move forward right now. But we’re thrilled to have the property and think we’re going to be able to really complement our unscripted lineup with it.”
Rogan, known for daring contestants to face off against snakes, bugs, and worse (remember the Madagascar hissing cockroaches?), became a defining part of the show’s early 2000s legacy. Whether he’ll reprise that role is still uncertain, but Thorn hinted that casting news could be just around the corner.
A “Fear Factor” for a New Era
Fox’s reboot will feature a group of strangers thrown together in an “unforgiving, remote location,” where they’ll face “mind-blowing stunts and harrowing challenges,” all while playing a “twisted game of social strategy,” according to the network.
The new format adds a psychological layer to the physical demands, pushing contestants to not only survive outrageous tasks but also navigate trust and betrayal in a high-pressure environment.
“We’re going to take the brand name, but I think we’ve come up with a really interesting take on it and the show from 20 years ago,” said Fox CEO of Entertainment Rob Wade.
Behind the scenes, “Fear Factor: The Next Chapter” is being produced by Endemol Shine North America—the same company that launched the original. Executive producer Kevin Lee will lead the charge, alongside Sharon Levy, Michael Heyerman, and Sean Loughlin.
While the show remains true to its adrenaline-fueled roots, this updated version aims to push boundaries even further and tap into what modern reality TV viewers crave: spectacle, strategy, and the unpredictable. Stay tuned for more info!
