Move Over Santa — Gabriel Basso Just Delivered the Ultimate Holiday Stunt

Just like the man with the bag, The Night Agent star Gabriel Basso took to the skies this Christmas—but instead of a sleigh, he hopped out of Netflix’s Gameday blimp, delivering fans one unforgettable gift: the action-packed trailer for The Night Agent Season 2.

That’s right, while the Ravens and Texans clashed at NRG Stadium during the NFL Christmas Day double-header, Basso stole the show with a jaw-dropping, gravity-defying stunt. Move over reindeer; this is how you really deliver a blockbuster moment.

Sky-High Stunts: Basso’s Mission to Thrill

What was Basso’s assignment? To announce that The Night Agent Season 2—produced by Sony Pictures Television—will return to Netflix on January 23, 2025. But instead of simply rolling out the trailer, the actor fully embraced his inner action hero, teaming up with legendary aerial coordinators and stunt specialists to make the jump as authentic as possible.

In the behind-the-scenes video, Basso shared how he prepared for the stunt, which involved skydiving certification and over 25 jumps across two cities, San Diego and Houston. “I find myself gravitating towards things where I can push that envelope a bit,” Basso explains. “And find out where the threshold is for how relaxed I can stay regardless of stimulus.”

For this epic feat, Basso worked with aerial stunt coordinator Sean MacCormac and Jon Devore—captain of the Red Bull Air Force—both veterans who have collaborated on high-octane productions with Tom Cruise and the Fast & Furious franchise. Using Red Komodo 6K helmet cameras, they captured Basso’s every twist, turn, and free-fall moment in stunning detail.

From Blimp to Boxes: The Anatomy of a Perfect Stunt

The highlight of the stunt? Basso parachuting over NRG Stadium before landing with a theatrical flourish. But that wasn’t the only jaw-dropping moment. To film one segment of the promo, the production team “bounced” the blimp 20 feet into the air, enabling Basso to leap out and land on a massive pile of cardboard boxes.

For fans wondering how much of this was real, the answer is: all of it. As confirmed by the behind-the-scenes footage, Basso performed the jump himself, showcasing the same fearless energy that defines his character, Peter Sutherland, in The Night Agent. “[I’m] jumping with a bunch of legends,” Basso says. “They set me up with Jon and Sean—veterans. So you just do what they tell you to do.”

Safety was paramount during the stunt’s execution, especially with stormy weather in Texas limiting the number of jumps they could perform. Despite the challenges, Basso and his team completed the mission in record time, solidifying his status as an action star who’s not afraid to get his hands dirty—or, in this case, his parachute tangled in adrenaline-fueled winds.

The Night Agent Season 2: What to Expect

This skydiving spectacle sets the tone for what fans can expect in The Night Agent Season 2: high-stakes action, relentless suspense, and jaw-dropping twists. Season 1 shattered records, becoming Netflix’s most-watched series of 2023, with 98.2 million views in its first 91 days. It also landed at the #7 spot on Netflix’s all-time Most Popular English Series list.

As fans of Peter Sutherland know, the show’s gripping narrative keeps you guessing until the very last second. Season 2 promises to push the envelope even further, with more conspiracies, betrayals, and life-or-death decisions on the horizon. And if Basso’s real-life stunt work is any indication, the on-screen action will be nothing short of breathtaking.
