Idris Elba is joining forces with King Charles III on a new Netflix documentary that will spotlight the life-changing impact of The King’s Trust—a charity that’s been helping vulnerable young people since 1976.
Idris Elba Has A Deeply Personal Connection To The Organization:
“The King’s Trust gave me an opportunity that changed my life,” Elba said in a statement. “At a time when I didn’t have the resources to pursue my ambitions, they offered real, practical support — including financial help — that helped me take those first steps to advance my career.”
Elba added: “Today, through the Elba Hope Foundation, I’m focused on creating those same opportunities for young people who are full of potential but lacking access. Around the world, millions are still waiting for that one door to open. This documentary is about shining a light on what’s possible when it does — and why the work of The King’s Trust remains so important.”
That spirit of paying it forward is the driving force behind this project. Set for release in fall 2026, the documentary will be produced by Elba’s company 22 Summers and directed by Ashley Francis-Roy. It will feature personal stories from young people impacted by the Trust and explore how organizations like it can change lives—through mentorship, funding, and access to opportunity.
With Netflix bringing the film to a global audience, Elba and King Charles aim to inspire a broader conversation around youth empowerment and the power of philanthropy. This is more than just a documentary—it’s a call to action, reminding us what’s possible when someone gets the support they need at just the right moment.
