After more than a decade away, the Scary Movie franchise is officially back and it’s bringing all the laughs, chaos, and parodies fans have been waiting for. The sixth installment of the long running horror spoof is set to hit theaters on Jun. 12, 2026, and Marlon Wayans is already giving fans a peek at what’s in store.
It’s been 11 years since Scary Movie 5 dropped in 2013, but this time around, Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans are reuniting with longtime collaborator Rick Alvarez to write an original script, with Michael Tiddes attached as director.
Fans know that Scary Movie built its legacy by satirizing many of the biggest horror hits of each era and the sixth installment will be no different. While promoting his new sports-horror movie Him with ComicBook, Marlon teased a few hints about what’s coming next.
“I Know What You Did Last Summer may have something in there. I think the Scream franchise is always a great one,” he teased. He also hinted at some more recent horror hits possibly making the cut.“I think Heretic was a wonderful film. Longlegs. Get Out. Nope. There are just so many great horror films to pull from that we plan on having a field day. Sinners.” With so many horror favorites on the table, it’s clear nothing is off-limits and any of them could end up as the next joke in Scary Movie 6.
Fans will also be thrilled to know that Wayans himself is stepping back into his fan-favorite role as Shorty, the stoner character who’s been a highlight of the series since day one. Bringing Shorty back required some preparation this time around. Wayans bulked up for his role as a pro football player in Him, so he had to put in the work to slim back down for the part. “Even right now, it’s Scary Movie,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “I just lost 20 lbs busting my behind every day ’cause I didn’t wanna show up to set as Shorty buff at 225. That’d be lazy of me. I wanna do the work, I wanna look like Shorty.” Wayans also promised that this film will be “no holds barred and equal opportunity offenders.”
Wayans won’t be the only familiar face returning. Anna Faris and Regina Hall are both reprising their beloved roles as Cindy and Brenda. In a joint statement to The Hollywood Reporter, the duo shared, “We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn, and Marlon.” Though the rest of the cast remains under wraps, fans can expect a good laugh combined with horror parody.
The first Scary Movie dropped back in 2000, instantly becoming a cultural phenomenon that set the bar for parody films. Until Scary Movie 6 lands in theaters, fans can still catch Wayans on the big screen in the upcoming sports horror film Him, produced by Jordan Peele, hitting theaters on Sept. 19, 2025.
