Where We Left Off
Season 4’s finale started on a high note with Oliver (Martin Short) and Loretta’s (Meryl Streep) emotional wedding, but things quickly spiraled into chaos. The truth about Sazz Pataki’s (Jane Lynch) murder finally came out—her killer was stuntman Marshall P. Pope, aka Rex Bailey (Jin Ha), who wanted to steal her screenplay and claim it as his own.
After being found out, Marshall took Mabel (Selena Gomez) hostage, only for Charles (Steve Martin) and Oliver to pull off a daring rescue by scaling the outside of the Arconia. Just when it seemed like all three were in serious danger, Marshall was shot through the window—by none other than Jan (Amy Ryan), Charles’ ex and the original season 1 villain.
But the episode didn’t end there. In a final twist, the trio stumbled upon the body of their beloved doorman, Lester (Teddy Coluca), lying dead in the building’s fountain—setting up a brand-new mystery for Season 5.
What’s Coming in “Only Murders in the Building” Season 5
Season 5 picks up with Lester’s murder, which will take center stage as our favorite amateur detectives dig into secrets buried deep within the Arconia. Expect more emotional weight this season as the trio confronts not just a crime, but the place they’ve come to call home.
Season 5 brings in some heavy hitters. Téa Leoni is back as Sofia Caccimelio, tied to a missing person and the Caputo crime family. Christoph Waltz, Renée Zellweger, Keegan-Michael Key, Logan German and Beanie Feldstein also join the cast in mysterious roles that are sure to shake things up.
Of course, Martin, Short, and Gomez are back at the center of it all. Michael Cyril Creighton returns as Howard, Da’Vine Joy Randolph is back as Detective Williams, and Meryl Streep will reprise her role as Loretta. The chemistry among the cast remains one of the show’s biggest strengths.
Filming began in March 2025, with scenes shot around New York, including the real-life Belnord building that stands in for the Arconia. Co-creator John Hoffman says this season will tap into themes of nostalgia and a changing New York, while staying true to the series’ signature tone.
