The “Outlander” universe is set to expand with the upcoming prequel series, “Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” premiering on Friday, August 8, 2025, on STARZ. This ten-episode series delves into the origins of Jamie Fraser and Claire Beauchamp, exploring the love stories of their parents.
A Tale of Two Love Stories
“Blood of My Blood” intertwines two narratives: the 18th-century romance of Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) in the Scottish Highlands, and the World War I-era courtship of Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) in England. These stories promise to enrich the lore of the “Outlander” series, offering insights into the characters that shaped Jamie and Claire.
Familiar Faces, New Perspectives
The series features younger versions of key characters from the original series, including Tony Curran as Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat; Séamus McLean Ross as Colum MacKenzie; Sam Retford as Dougal MacKenzie; Rory Alexander as Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser; and Conor MacNeill as Ned Gowan. This casting choice aims to provide a fresh perspective on the established “Outlander” narrative.
Behind the Scenes
Matthew B. Roberts serves as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, and Jim Kohlberg. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television. Filming took place in Scotland, with locations including Glasgow and Doune Castle, which stands in for Castle Leoch.
A Standalone Experience
While “Blood of My Blood” is deeply rooted in the “Outlander” universe, it is designed as a standalone series. New viewers can engage with the series without prior knowledge of “Outlander,” while longtime fans will appreciate the added depth to beloved characters’ backstories.
